2. Player substitution
Imagine a team trailing by a goal and the manager substitutes a player, hoping for a goal or two to swing the game in their favour. And boy, the substitute delivers for his team! On a certain occasion, this substitute was none other than Robert Lewandowski, who was brought on after half-time by the tactician Pep Guardiola, and Lewandowski went on to score five goals in a span of just nine minutes! Yes, you read that right, five goals in just nine minutes. That’s what we call a masterstroke substitution.
Imagine such situations on a cricketing field. 17 runs needed off the final over of a World Cup final, with just two wickets left. Not many would favour the chasing team. But what if the captain decides to substitute a hard-hitting batter who wins it for them from that crunch situation? Wouldn’t that be interesting to watch for the cricket lovers?
Unlike the concussion rule, the captain can substitute a player in football, irrespective of the player being replaced is injured or not. The rule can be moderated to only one substitution in cricket, unlike the three allowed in football, to maintain the balance of the game and avoid any unfair advantage to any team.
