3 Teams that should bid for Mitchell Starc in IPL 2020 Auction
Starc has been pretty lethal in the shorter formats.
It was back in October 2010 when a tall lanky left-arm pacer from New South Wales made his international debut as a 20-year-old in an ODI in India. He didn’t have the best of debuts as the years went along, the name Mitchell Starc got a lot more familiar in world cricket. He became a lot more consistent in the Australian side and is one of their premier fast bowlers across formats today.
Starc has been pretty lethal in the shorter formats and has built a name on the back of his ability to bowl well at all stages of the game. In fact, his ability to nail in the yorkers at the death was brilliant.
Thus, in 2014, he was picked up by Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) for a sum of INR 5 crores. He played a couple of seasons and was very good as he picked up 34 wickets across two seasons. However, constant injuries have kept him away from the IPL since 2016. Starc’s injury worries meant he had to part ways with RCB in 2017.
In 2018, the left-arm pacer was bought by the Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) for a whopping amount of INR 9.4 crores. However, another injury ruled him out. Hence, Starc will most likely be back in the auction this time around. He will hope that he can remain injury-free as well. Thus, with the auction just a little over two months away, let’s look at three teams that should pick Starc in the upcoming auction.
1. Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB)
Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) have always tended to be batting heavy side. The megastars, the likes of Virat Kohli and AB de Villiers have often hogged the limelight. However, they have more often than not struggled on the bowling front.
They have a young Indian pace battery. The likes of Umesh Yadav, Kulwant Khejroliya, Navdeep Saini and Mohammed Siraj. However, they have blown hot and cold far too often. Moreover, Tim Southee hasn’t delivered either and Dale Steyn who came in as a replacement for Nathan Coulter-Nile got injured after a couple of games as well.
Hence, with the future over Steyn uncertain and Southee’s returns not promising, RCB need a quality overseas pacer. The inclusion of Starc may be a big boost and just the kind of addition Kohli and co would be looking for. Moreover, Starc has played under Kohli before and the duo gel well too.
