5 Australian youngsters in the squad who can make an impact

Every youngster is on the lookout for that one golden opportunity which gives him a chance to exhibit his talent and capitulates him to fame. The current Australian squad also consists of many such talented youngsters who are not very well-known but possess the ability and talent to make a big impact if afforded opportunities.

Let’s take a look at the 5 underrated youngsters in the Aussie squad who are more than capable of giving the seniors a run for their money-

1. Matt Renshaw

The 20-year-old Yorkshire-born batsman has been hailed as one of the most impressive youngsters currently in world cricket. His ability to switch gears earned a lot of acclaims when he scored 184 runs against Pakistan at such an early age displaying a great deal of patience and resolute gameplay during the initial part of the day and then aggressively smashed the ball to all parts of the ground during the later stages.

The youngster has already earned comparisons to David Warner because of his aggressive gameplay and limited first-class experience. Renshaw has been scoring big consistently in the domestic season in the recent years and there is no reason why he cannot replicate the same performances against India.

315 runs in just 4 matches at a strike rate of 48.01 and average of 63 indicates why he is so highly-rated.

2. Jackson Bird

The 30-year-old fast bowler does not bowl at an extreme pace which many feel is the most dangerous aspect in a fast bowler. However, his accuracy and swing have earned him a reputation of being one of the most effective fast bowlers currently in Australian cricket.

Bird has snapped 34 wickets in just 8 Test matches at an economy rate of 3.19 which indicates his impact with the ball so far. Bird will be entrusted with the responsibility of unnerving Indian batsmen with his accurate bowling performances.

3. Josh Hazlewood

Hazlewood has been a top performer for Australia ever since he made his debut December 2014 at the tender age of 23. The tall and pace bowler is blessed with the ability to bowl accurately on a consistent basis without affecting his line and length which makes him a potent weapon for the Australians.

The youngster has named Glenn Mcgrath as his role model whose impact is certainly visible in the style of bowling adopted. Josh has snapped 109 wickets in 26 games at an economy rate of 2.83 and average of 24.78 which is pretty impressive indeed.

4. Mitchell Swepson

The 23-year-old leg-spinner from Australia has earned comparisons to Shane Warne because of his ability to consistently scoop wickets even in the toughest of conditions. Swepson is not afraid to give the ball a good rip which makes him a potent weapon for team Australia.

He could prove to be a top partner for Nathan Lyon on India’s spin-friendly pitches which will surely delight coach Darren Lehmann to a great extent. 41 wickets in 14 first-class matches on Australia’s pace friendly pitches is no small feat.

5. Peter Handscomb

The 25-year-old batsman from Australia enjoys the ability to effectively negotiate both pace and spin bowling equally effectively which was evident when he stroked a fluent 54 on debut against South Africa at Adelaide. Peter did not finish with a score below 50 in his first 7 innings in Test cricket which indicates his consistency.

Peter will be expected to make the No. 4 spot his own in the coming years which does not seem like a far cry considering his impressive performances and mature gameplay. 399 runs in 4 Test matches at an average of 99.75 are pretty impressive indeed.
