With 6657 runs in 110 FC match, Mickey Arthur was one of the domestic heavyweights in South Africa during his playing career. Soon after retiring in 2001, Arthur began coaching with his former club Griqualand West and later took up the job with Eastern Cape in 2003. In 2005, Cricket South Africa chose him to take over as the national coach after Ray Jenning’s departure. His coaching stint with South Africa was sloppy before the Graeme Smith led side resurrected thing with some consistent performances. His tenure with the national team expired in 2010 following which he travelled to Australia to become coach of Western Australia. His coaching career touched another high after he became the first foreign-born coach of the Australian national team. However, his time with the Australian team was not great as mediocre showings on the field and team discipline issues resulted in Arthur being sacked from the job in 2013.
