Chris Gayle is renowned for his brash and outlandish approach, both on and off the field. The attributes have landed him in quite a few controversies over the course of his illustrious cricketing career. A controversy sparked during the 2015/16 season of the Big Bash League.

During a game between the Hobart Hurricanes and Melbourne Renegades, he was interviewed by Network Ten reporter, Mel McLaughlin. During the interaction, Gayle asked the reporter to go out with him for a drink, which caught the journalist off-guard on live TV.

The Jamaican then remarked “don’t blush baby,” to which the reporter said that she isn’t blushing. He was subsequently fined A$ 10,000 for his notorious and sexist comments for the journalist. Nonetheless, the swashbuckling cricketer later apologised to her for her disrespectful behaviour.
