It has been not been a great few months for young budding cricketer Rishabh Pant, who has been at the receiving end of some serious flack. Some careless shots at the wrong time and attempting to be too audacious has cost him a place in the Test side and the repercussions could begin to hamper his limiter overs future if he doesn’t chip in with a big knock soon.
Despite all the hype that surrounded this youngster, the gloom has taken over and dark clouds currently are above him. This isn’t an impossible situation to get out of and he also as the backing of the team management, which should do his confidence a world of good. Having said that, all that counts for him are the runs he scores.
There is a certain possibility that Dinesh Karthik could be the top pick as the wicketkeeper-batsman in the upcoming T20 World Cup, which could keep Pant out of the equation. Here are five alternatives for Pant, if that would be the case.
1. Ishan Kishan
Without a doubt, the number one choice to replace Rishabh Pant is his U19 India captain Ishan Kishan. Both these players opened for the U19 Indian team in the 2016 World Cup and did a tremendous job. Kishan has been making headlines ever since with his power-packed performances for Jharkhand and the Mumbai Indians.
Kishan will be offering something similar to what Pant does, making him a like-for-like replacement. He can keep the wickets pretty well and is a handy batsman in the middle order. He can also open the innings, which is his usual batting position in the domestic circuit.
He has been on the radar of getting selected for a long period of time, but for various reasons he remained out of it. His performances have been improving over the last 12-14 months and it seems likely that he will be picked up by the selectors pretty soon.
