5 Father-son pairs who have appeared in the same cricket match

Cricket is a competitive sport where players spend their whole life in earning a reputation of a good cricketer. From the beginning, every player dreams to play competitive cricket at a certain level. However, in a crowd of million people, some successfully to make it to the big stage but not all. And it is a harsh reality associated with the sports since its inception. Meanwhile, there are some lucky cases where the father and the son, both hit the spotlight in their respective cricketing careers. Moreover, if both get to play together in the same game in competitive cricket, then it is a dream-come-true for any father. Fans will think that how is it possible that the duo father and son can play together in the same game. However, there are instances where some of the father-son pairs have made this impossible-looking thing possible. Let’s list out five father-son pair that played in the same cricket match: 1. Lala and Surinder Amarnath Lala and Surinder Amarnath. (Photo Source: Twitter) Lala Amarnath made his Test debut for Team India back in 1933 and went onto play 24 Tests in which he scored 874 runs with the help of one ton and 4 fifties. Later, his son Surinder Amarnath carried forward his father’s legacy and he also played for the national team in 10 Tests. However, the biggest moment for both the players came in 1963 when Lala Amarnath and Surinder Amarnath featured in the same game. In 1963, five games were organized in order to raise some funds for the defence of the country. In the fourth game of the tournament, Maharashtra Chief Minister’s XI locked horns with Maharashtra Governor’s XI. It was the debut for 15-year-old Surinder Amarnath in First-class cricket. Interestingly, Lala Amarnath, who was 52-year-old, also played in that game but in the opposite team. In that game, junior Amarnath hogged the spotlight with a fine knock of 86 whereas Lala Amarnath also scored 40+ runs in his innings. 2. Shivnarine Chanderpaul and Tagenarine Shivnarine Chanderpaul and Tagenarine. (Photo Source: Twitter) Shivnarine Chanderpaul name doesn’t need any introduction, who is regarded as one of the finest batsmen that West Indies has ever produced in its cricketing history. The left-handed batsman signed off from international cricket back in 2015 after playing for 17 years and scored more than 20,000 international runs. He loved the game so much that he continued playing in domestic cricket. Soon, his son Tagenarine also began taking long strides in his quest to take his father’s legacy forward. At the age of 22, he got the opportunity to play alongside his father as they both play for the same team in domestic cricket. It is great to watch this father-son pair complementing each other while batting. They once stitched a mammoth partnership of 256 runs in a 40-over game for Gandhi Youth Organization. On the other hand, they both were involved in a hilarious incident when junior Chanderpaul got run out following his confusion while running between the wicket with his father. 3. Willie and Bernard Quaife Willie Quaife. (Photo Source: Twitter) Willie Quaife was one of the stylish batsmen from England and he made his international debut back in 1899 against Australia. His career couldn’t long enough as ended up playing only 7 Tests in which he scored 228 runs. He couldn’t do well for the national team. On the other hand, he was a famous name in First-class cricket with more than 36000 runs in 719 games. His son was a wicketkeeper-batsman, who played 319 FC games and scored 9,594 runs. He made his first-class debut for Warwickshire against Somerset while playing for Warwickshire before he moved to Worcestershire. Before leaving Warwickshire, the junior Quaife was lucky enough to play with his father in 20 games. 4. Denis and Heath Streak Heath Streak. (Photo Source: Twitter) Denis Streak, the former player took cricket as his career before Zimbabwe got the status of Test-playing nation. However, he didn’t get enough opportunities to play for the national side. On the other hand, his son Heath Streak did a commendable job with the bat and ball for Zimbabwe. Heath Streak had an illustrious international career where he grabbed 216 wickets in Tests and 239 in ODIs. He also played 23 T20s where he scalped 24 wickets. The senior Streak disappeared from the competitive cricket for some time. And, he again marked his arrival back into the first-class cricket at the age of 47. In 1996, after a long gap of 11 years, the senior Streak played for Matabeleland. Interestingly, his son also played in the same team that became champions of Lonrho Logan Cup after beating Mashonaland Country Districts in the tournament final. 5. George and George Vernon Gunn George and George Vernon Gunn. (Photo Source: Twitter) George Gunn, the former England cricket played 15 Tests in which he gathered 1120 runs with the help of two tons and seven half-centuries. The fans would be astonished to know that he was a legendary cricketer in England’s first-class cricket, who ended up with more than 35,000 runs next to his name with 62 tons and 194 half-centuries. On the other hand, his son George Vernon Gunn never played for England. But, he did exceedingly well with the bat in first-class cricket. Both the players used to play for Nottinghamshire. In 1931, during a match against Warwickshire, the senior Gunn played a marathon knock of 183 runs. The junior Gunn, who was playing his debut game for the same team score a brilliant ton. As per the stats of the recorded game, they are the only father-son pair to score tons in the same game. They both played together in 34 matches in First-class cricket.
