5 Indian cricketers who can benefit from County cricket

It’s often said by some purists in the fraternity that if an individual can excel in County cricket, he can excel anywhere, in any aspect of the game. Before the CPLs and IPLs, it was County cricket which the players would prefer. It would help them get used to the incredibly tough English conditions, where the batsmen have to tackle with the lateral movement off fast bowlers. The dynamics of the game have changed drastically these days, but County cricket still commands a lot of respect. Cricketers from all across the globe still travel to England and try to better their technique with a short County stint. The Indian cricket team is still trying to find the right permutations and combinations as there are a lot of cricketers in the fray who are doing well. A lot of these cricketers are terrific talents, but there are some loopholes in their techniques, which they should overcome if they desire to last long. Few Indian cricketers can benefit extensively by playing County cricket and get the better of those little weaknesses they have. Here is a list of five such cricketers. 1. He has been performing very well in Test cricket and has earned an assured place in the side. But the youngster still has certain temperament problems which are not letting him score big and he’s eventually getting out after scoring a half-century. Though he scored a century in Australia, he still didn’t get exposed to any tough batting situations outside Asia. Rahul still needs to focus a lot on playing fast bowlers well and he can benefit a lot by playing County cricket. Being an integral part of the side across all formats, he won’t get enough time to do so, but if he ever gets time, this is something he should definitely try. 2. Wriddhiman Saha Wriddhiman Saha. (Photo Source: Twitter) After MS Dhoni’s retirement from Test cricket, people were concerned about who would fill up his boots as a middle order batsman and wicket-keeper. Saha was the man who Kohli opted and the 32-year-old didn’t disappoint. He bats after Ravichandran Ashwin in the lineup, but he makes the most of the opportunities he gets. Saha is a flawless wicket-keeper, but he can improve a lot more with the willow in hand. If he can face the County music and survive, he will find out he’d be a much better cricketer he was before traveling there. He sometimes tends to give away his wicket with some rash shots and there are some other issues as well, which he can address and overcome in England. 3. Kuldeep Yadav Kuldeep Yadav. (Photo Source: Twitter) The young chinaman bowler from Uttar Pradesh is one of the hottest properties across world cricket right now. He has a certain X-Factor in his bowling, which is bamboozling the batters and earning wickets for him and his team. He has performed exceedingly well in the few games he played for India, but he needs to pick a lot more wickets to earn an assured place. He should learn to bowl outside the subcontinent, especially on Australian, South African and English tracks where there’s scarcely any assistance for spinners. He can still excel in these conditions if he can use his stock ball, the googly well and to master the art, he can represent a County side and gain invaluable experience. 4. Karun Nair Karun Nair. (Photo Source: Twitter) After scoring a spectacular triple-ton in Chennai, Karun Nair’s career went the wrong direction. He failed to score anything considerable and eventually got dropped from the side. There’s no doubt about the talent that this Karnataka man possesses, but lack of application is costing him big time and he currently needs to do something spectacular to make a comeback. Before the Ranji season commences, he has enough time to travel all the way to England and correct the little errors in his technique. He’s always on the radar of selectors and all he needs to amass tons of runs in the domestic circuit. The 25-year-old is desperate for a change right now and the English environment and conditions will only help to better his mood and game. 5. Jayant Yadav Jayant Yadav. (Photo Source BCCI) Not a long time ago, Jayant Yadav was doing exactly the same job which Hardik Pandya is doing right now. Pandya is a much better cricketer in all aspects though and he is way ahead in this race. The 27-year-old needs to learn how to bowl outside Asia, as he ain’t a big spinner of the ball. He tends to deceive players with the little turn he gets. He won’t get that little turn outside the subcontinent and how will he cope with that is a conundrum. To explore himself and understand his strengths and weaknesses a lot more, he needs County cricket exposure which will help him improve across all the three dimensions. Just like Karun Nair, he has to do something spectacular to regain the trust of the selectors for the upcoming tours.
