Shardul Thakur made his international T20 debut at SuperSport Park, Centurian against the Proteas in February 2018. Since then, he has been an in-and-out member of the Indian team. During the absence of experienced fast bowlers such as Jasprit Bumrah and Bhuvneshwar Kumar, he sometimes has also led the bowling attack in the shorter format of the game.

A total of 21 wickets in 14 matches will tell you that he has been a fine bowler for India, but there is another problem. His lack of bowling yorkers at the death has been an issue and his economy of a whooping 8.73 too doesn’t help his cause.

Jasprit Bumrah has returned from his injury and Mohammed Shami, on the other hand, is making a strong case for his slot in the T20 format. The relatively newcomers, Navdeep Saini and Deepak Chahar have also done well in the limited opportunities they’ve got. All in all, it’s not going to be easy for Shardul Thakur and he might be axed out from the T20 World Cup squad that will travel to Australia.
