5 Indian players who might be surprisingly axed for T20 World Cup 2020
Selectors will have to take a few harsh calls.
5. Khaleel Ahmed
Ever since the likes of RP Singh, Irfan Pathan, Zaheer Khan and Ashish Nehra retired from cricket, India is in need of a quality left-arm pacer. When Khaleel Ahmed arrived on the big stage, everyone thought, he is the one. However, that was not to be.
The 22-year fast-medium bowler from Tonk, Rajasthan, Khaleel Ahmed, played his last T20 international match in November last year, having made his debut a year prior to that. In the 14 matches he has bowled in, he has just got 13 wickets at a poor economy rate of 8.83. The expectations riding on him were not fulfilled.
The T20 World Cup in Australia starts in October and India is trying to strengthen its bowling. With the experience of Jasprit Bumrah and Mohammed Shami, the raw pace of Navdeep Saini, the deadly swing of Deepak Chahar already in India’s possession, chances are that Khaleel Ahmed might be dropped from the Indian squad for the T20 World Cup.
