Nowadays politics is becoming equally famous as cricket among people, especially youth. As a result of it, political parties are not leaving any stone unturned to use the popularity and fan base of the game India worship the most i.e. cricket. They have roped in the famous personalities of the game with the likes of Mohammad Azharuddin, Navjot Singh Sidhu. The political parties from other countries like Pakistan, Sri Lanka also applied the same formula to make gains from the huge fan following of the iconic cricket players who had represented their respective country. Recently, just when the Lok Sabha elections are around the corner, the ruling BJP party pulled in former Indian opener Gautam Gambhir and thus the left-handed batsman became the latest entrant to Indian politics from the game of cricket. As the youth is getting more and more involved in politics, there are chances that we might see many more Indian cricketers joining one political party or the other. The Prince of Kolkata was an excellent leader on the field who never backed down from the responsibilities and his attitude towards the game made him the greatest player to have played the game. He was an excellent reader of the game and was known to think fast and efficiently. During his playing days, the 46-year-old had a huge fan base due to the aggressive kind of attitude he possessed that was liked by people all around the world. Currently, Dada serves as the President of the Cricket Association of Bengal and given his popularity among fans and his dedication to making a better society there are chances of him joining politics in future. 2. There were rumours as well, a few years back, that the 38-year-old might join Congress to contest elections from the Jalandhar constituency. However, the spinner quashed such rumours later. But given the popularity and huge fan following Bhajji enjoys in his home state and the kind of personality he is, there are huge chances that Indian off-spinner might join the politics for the upliftment of the state of Punjab which is facing drugs related issues. Harbhajan’s straight forward personality and popularity is Taylor made for garnishing votes and his emotional nature can make him work for the people in an efficient way. 3. Dhoni’s go-to man on the field for many years, the 32-year-old is also an excellent orator and can be an ideal person for a party who is looking for a candidate with a good fan base and qualities to maintain that fan base with his witty words. His intelligence and composure is an added advantage for the big stage so he is definitely a contender to join politics after hanging up his boots in the game. 4. Virender Sehwag Virender Sehwag. He can be seen on social media actively putting his thoughts about the events happening around and also entertaining his followers with his witty tweets. Reportedly, he recently rejected the offer from BJP to contest election which is a sign that the political parties are interested in Sehwag. The 40-year-old recently expressed his anger over the Pulwama attack on his Twitter handle and as a part of lovely gesture even pledged to bear the cost of studies for the children of Pulwama attack victims. His vision to improve society and his active comments on politics related issues are clear indicators that the Nawab of Najafgarh if given a chance might join politics in future. 5. Kedar Jadhav Kedar Jadhav. He has established himself as an integral part of India’s 50-over outfit and has also been able to garnish a lot of fans around the country. Coming from the state of Maharashtra where people are known to support and promote local people, there are chances that the 33-year-old Jadhav might want to try his luck in politics after his cricketing career ends. The Pune- born batsman has an intelligent and cool mind and his ability to handle pressure might also come in handy at the political stage.
