The last 10-12 months haven’t been easy for Shikhar Dhawan. Even he has constantly struggled with injuries and there were new problems coming up every now and then. Moreover, most of these have been freak injuries. It started in the 2019 World Cup where he injured his thumb. He then injured his knee while playing the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy before hurting his shoulder in the ODI series against Australia.

Thus, Dhawan has spent a lot of time on the sidelines in the recent past. Moreover, KL Rahul has taken charge in the shortest format and has grabbed his chances with both hands. On the other hand, he isn’t even in the scheme of things in Test cricket. The Delhi opening batsman is still India’s premier ODI opener and that is also his best format.

But as far as Test cricket is concerned, Dhawan’s days might be over. With the likes of Prithvi Shaw, Shubman Gill and others doing exceptionally well in domestic cricket, the selectors might not go back to the 34-year-old. Thus, he might as well bid adieu to the longest format of the game.
