5 Indian players who might retire from one format soon
There may be a few Indian players who might be considering to retire from one format. Here are five such players.
4. Hardik Pandya – Test cricket
India’s eternal search for a proper seam-bowling all-rounder seemed to have ended with Hardik Pandya’s emergence. The Baroda all-rounder has been a key figure in the Indian team across formats over the last few years. He’s been absolutely critical in the shorter formats and has done well in Test cricket too.
However, Pandya has been dealing with quite a few injuries in the last 18 months or so. He has spent more time rehabbing than on the field. The 26-year-old has been struggling with a series of back issues. In fact, he was ruled out midway through the Asia Cup in September 2018 before another bout of back spasms ahead of the Australia series at home in February-March 2019. After the 2019 World Cup, Pandya played only two T20Is against South Africa before he underwent back surgery.
The younger Pandya brother has been out since September last year and is rehabbing and is expected to be back before the IPL. Thus, with so many injury issues, Pandya’s back may not be able to manage the workload of Test cricket. Hence, he may well ponder over quitting the longest format.
