5. Ravi Shastri to Mike Whitney: “If you could bowl as well as you talk, you wouldn’t have been the 12th Man.”

We all know how competitive and fierce Ravi Shastri can be as a character who will never resist out when it comes to the passing of even a single nickel when faced. Such ferocious nature of him has been, time and again, evident whether it was him back then playing for India or when it was his commentary stint and even now as being the national coach of the team.

Conceivably, Shastri’s response to Mike Whitney was definitely nothing short of what one might have equally expected of him especially to an Aussie being at the receiver’s end. The incident had taken place in one of the Test matches when India toured in 1991-92 to Australia as Whitney was brought in as the 12th man.

The incident occurred when Shastri hit the ball in the direction of  Whitney, looking to get off the strike but had to withhold himself. Moments later, Whitney made a witty remark at Shastri to stay in the crease or else he would break his head.

However, Shastri gave a mouth shutting reply by responding, “If you could bowl as well as you talk, you wouldn’t have been the 12th Man.”
