A young Indian side was touring Sri Lanka for a white-ball series. After winning the first ODI comfortably, India was looking to seal the series in the 2nd ODI. After winning the toss, Sri Lanka posted a strong total of 277 on the board after their 50 overs.

India had a shaky start to the chase as they lost 3 wickets for 65 runs. The onus was on the captain Shikhar Dhawan to take India to the finishing line. However, Dhawan too got after a few overs and India were 115-4. Suryakumar Yadav stood at one end and looked quite comfortable, but he was not getting enough support.

Wickets kept falling and eventually India was needed to chase around 100 runs with just 3 wickets in hand. Deepak Chahar, who came to the crease in a difficult situation, remained composed and started building a partnership with Bhuvaneshwar Kumar. They batted well till the end and took India to victory. Chahar remained not out on 69, the highest score among the Indian batsmen.
