In modern-day cricket, social media plays an important role in any players life. When they perform well on the field, they receive applauds from the fans on social media platforms. But when they are going through a bad patch, they even get trolled for their poor performances. In the meantime, the trollers often cross the line which is not acceptable in any case.

It is well-known that losing and winning is a part of the game. But that doesn’t give any troller a right to deliberately poke cricketers for their poor performances. Instead of that, people can motivate them to rise from ashes to glory.

Cricketers have been trolled for their on-field performances on several occasions. So at that time, wives of cricketers have come out to shut down trollers with befitting replies. There have been many instances a player’s wife has come out in defence of her husband.

Here we discuss the top five instances when the wife gave an emphatic response to the trollers:

1. Anushka Sharma

Anushka Sharma, the better half of Indian skipper Virat Kohli, once shut down the former Indian cricketer Farokh Engineer for taking a dig against her presence in the dressing room during 2019 World Cup. Actually, the former player said that Indian selectors were busy serving tea to Anushka during the mega-event.

Later on, Anushka Sharma took to her Twitter handle and released a big statement saying that she attended only one game in 2019 World Cup. Moreover, she was sitting in the family box instead of selectors box. She also added that nobody has the right to use her name to give a new angle to their opinion.

According to Anushka, if anybody has a problem with selectors, they can have their opinion but nobody can use her name to attract controversy. Afterwards, Engineer offered an apology to the Bollywood actress. In the end, he said that he was pointing towards the selectors’ credibility and he never wanted to demean Anushka.

2. Sakshi Dhoni

Amid Coronavirus outbreak, cricketers came forward to in order to donate some hefty amounts to PM-Cares Relief funds in the fight against the novel virus that has taken several lives across the globe. Virat Kohli, Sourav Ganguly, Suresh Raina, Rohit Sharma and many more supported the government by donating funds for such generous cause. Meanwhile, MS Dhoni name hit the headlines for giving just one lakh as his token of donation.

The media houses began debates on how a big cricketer like Dhoni can donate such a small amount. But, all the news turned false when Sakshi Dhoni revealed the truth.

The better half of Dhoni took to her official Twitter handle and furiously said that stop debating over the false news in such alarming situation. She also added in her post that it is a shame to watch this kind of journalism.

“I request all media houses to stop carrying out false news at sensitive times like these ! Shame on You ! I wonder where responsible journalism has disappeared!” wrote Sakshi.

3. Mayanti Langer

Stuart Binny, the 35-year-old all-rounder holds the record for having the best bowling figures in ODIs for India. He played for Team India for a short span of time before he was ruled out from the national team due to a sudden dip in his form with the bat and ball.

On the other hand, his wife has emerged as a famous anchor in the cricket world. She is a common face of IPL talk shows as well as match presentations. Once, a fan tried to troll her and Stuart Binny. The critic took to his Twitter handle and said that Binny is just carrying the baggage of Mayanti Langer as he is not playing for Team India anymore.

Soon, Mayanti came out with a fitting response and said she can carry her baggage on her own. And, Stuart Binny is busy living his life and playing cricket.

4. Narjis Amir

In the year 2019, after bidding adieu to the Test format, Mohammad Amir applied for the UK visa. He had to face the heat of the fans for the same as many thought that he was shifting his base to the UK. And, he was looking to play for the England cricket team.

When things went bad, Amir’s wife Narjis took to her official Twitter handle and lashed out at people for doubting Mohammad Amir’s loyalty. She said that they don’t need to explain anything to anyone. But fans who always support his husband should know the truth that her husband doesn’t need to play for any country.

Narjis stated that Amir plays for Pakistan and he is proud of it. She also added that if their daughter wants to play cricket, then she will also play for the same nation.

5. Danielle de Villiers

In 2018, AB de Villiers took a shocking decision by taking a sudden retirement just a few months before the 2019 World Cup. Many were surprised that why did de Villiers take such a strong step without informing the fans about the same. However, the main reason behind his retirement was that he was failing to spend ample time with his family.

One day, Danielle, wife of AB de Villiers took to her official Instagram handle with a heartwarming message that read, “I hope you don’t mind that I put down in words… how wonderful life is now that you’re in the world. Much needed the afternoon off with my one and only, confidante and bestie.”.

One of the followers couldn’t hold onto his frustration and took a dig on former South African player’s wife and said that she was the reason behind the retirement of AB de Villiers. Soon, Danielle responded to the comment of her follower saying that he has no right to raise questions on their marriage. Moreover, she gave a warning to that follower to never commit such mistake in the future.
