After India’s disastrous campaign in the 2007 World Cup, there was one mission – to win the 2011 World Cup at home. No host nation had won a World Cup before. Hence, India had a chance to rewrite history.

After a competitive group stage, India beat Australia and Pakistan in two tough games in the quarter-final and semi-final respectively. They faced co-hosts Sri Lanka in the big final. The latter managed a very good score of 274. Mahela Jayawardene scored a ton. India were in a spot of bother at 31/2 but Virat Kohli, Gautam Gambhir and MS Dhoni played crucial knocks to help India lift the World Cup title after 28 years.

The players were elated and it was Sachin Tendulkar’s sixth and last World Cup too. Hence, Yuvraj Singh held the master and wept. They were tears of happiness as the Indian team accomplished their dream. Harbhajan Singh couldn’t hold back his tears either.
