5 Players Rajasthan Royals should pick in IPL 2019
Here are the 5 players the RR camp can target in 2019 edition of the IPL.
The Rajasthan Royals had a very good season in the IPL 2018. They made a comeback to the IPL roster after having served their two year suspension period. They made it to the playoffs and lost the Eliminator against the Kolkata Knight Riders. The road to the playoffs for the Royals was not an easy one though. They lost their first game of the season by 9 wickets against the Sunrisers Hyderabad.
They came back strong to register three wins and then lost their way again. In the later stages of the league matches, they found their mojo yet again and managed to scrape through to the playoffs. While they would be relatively happy with the way their players performed this season, they do have some concerns to address before they head in to the IPL 2019.
They would want to work on those concerns. And in order to do so, they would feel the need to bring in a few players in their squad. Here we try pick five such players who can add some serious weight to the ideal balance for the Rajasthan Royals in the next edition of the IPL.
Here are the 5 players Rajasthan Royals should pick in IPL 2019:
Eoin Morgan
Team England has flourished big time under the leadership of Eoin Morgan in the limited overs cricket. The southpaw has previously been in the IPL and has fared decently for the various franchises that he has played for. The Royals suffered a lot this season owing to the fact that their middle order was largely unstable.
With someone like Eoin Morgan in the side, they can be assured of stability in the side. Also, he can give valuable inputs to the skipper in crunch situations. It will not be surprising to see the Rajasthan Royals look out for Morgan in the next edition of the IPL.
Joe Root
English Test skipper Joe Root surprisingly found no takers in the IPL auctions this year. Albeit the elegant player does not give an outright impression of being a T20 cricketer, he has tasted success in the shortest format of the game. Root was one of the key players for his side in the previous edition of the ICC World T20.
The Rajasthan Royals, much like the Delhi Daredevils, can see Root as a cheat deal and grab him for the next edition of the IPL. Root can open the innings for the side. And if the team balance demands, he can come in the middle order and provide the stability that the Royals lacked this season.
Shaun Marsh
Shaun Marsh is a tried and tested opener in the Indian Premier League. He holds the distinction of being the first uncapped player to score in excess of 500 runs in a single edition of the IPL. Marsh was the winner of the Orange Cap in the 2008 edition of the tournament.
The Rajasthan Royals can think of getting his services for the next edition. They gave ample opportunities to D Arcy Short this season. Marsh can be a good replacement for Short. Marsh’s ability to play the spinners well on Indian tracks make him a very handy option as an overseas player in an IPL team.
Lendl Simmons
The name of Lendl Simmons is not a new one in the IPL roster. Simmons has tasted immense success in the IPL over the years for the Mumbai Indians. He has played in four editions of the IPL and has scored in excess of 1000 runs in the 29 outings he has had.
He has scored 11 fifties and a century in the Mumbai Indians outfit which speak volumes about his mettle in the prestigious tournament. The Rajasthan Royals can find a one stop solution to their opening woes by roping in the services of Simmons in IPL 2019. On his day, Simmons is capable of tearing apart any bowling lineup.
Jonny Bairstow
A lot of people might feel that Jonny Bairstow might not fit the bill when it comes to the IPL. But the reality check clearly suggests that Bairstow can be a very lethal option in the shortest format of the game. The Rajasthan Royals have had their struggles with their opening combinations this season.
D Arcy Short failed miserably in his role and hence, roping in someone like Bairstow sounds like a very good deal. The 28 year old wicketkeeper batsman has tasted success in the Indian conditions when the English side had toured India a season ago. He can be very attacking and has opened for the national side as well. Not a lot of people know that Bairstow has a T20 ton to his name.
