5 players RR might release before the next IPL season

The Rajasthan Royals had won the Indian Premier League (IPL) in the year 2008. However, after that season, the Jaipur-based franchise has failed to make it to the final even once. The Royals have qualified for the playoffs in some editions, but they have finished out of the Top 4 on a majority of the occasions. Inconsistency has been the biggest problem for the Rajasthan Royals. They start their seasons on a grand note. However, as the tournament progresses, they lose their path. The same thing happened in 2020 as well. The Steve Smith-led outfit began their campaign with two emphatic wins over the Chennai Super Kings and the Kings XI Punjab. However, they finished at the last position on the standings after managing to win only four of their next eight matches. The likes of Jofra Archer, Ben Stokes, Steve Smith, Sanju Samson, Rahul Tewatia, and Jos Buttler did well for the team, but the other players could not contribute much. The team management will look to release a few players before the next season, and here are the five players who might not be retained by the inaugural champions. 5. Ankit Rajpoot Ankit Singh Rajpoot. (Photo Source: IPL/BCCI) Ankit Rajpoot is the only Indian uncapped fast bowler to take a five-wicket haul in the IPL history. Rajpoot has played for multiple franchises in his IPL career, but he had one of his worst seasons in 2020. The Rajasthan Royals included him in their playing XI six times in the IPL 2020 season. However, he could dismiss only two batsmen in those six matches. On top of that, his economy rate of 11.70 put pressure on the other bowlers of the team. Rajpoot’s bowling average of 99.50 shows how the batsmen dominated him this year in the United Arab Emirates. While RR backed him after a couple of failures in IPL 2020, it is highly unlikely that they would retain him before the next season. Also, RR have Aakash Singh on the bench, a player who impressed a lot with his performance in the U-19 World Cup. 4. Riyan Parag Rahul Tewatia & Riyan Parag. (Photo Source: IPL/BCCI) Another uncapped Indian player to feature on this list is the all-rounder Riyan Parag. The right-handed batsman had won the hearts of the fans with his fantastic celebration after helping his team pull off an improbable run chase against the Sunrisers Hyderabad. However, that proved to be the only contribution from Parag’s end. The 19-year-old player represented the Royals in 12 matches of IPL 2020. The youngster scored only 86 runs at a strike rate of 111.68. If one takes out his 42 runs against the Orange Army, Parag scored only 44 runs in 11 games. Captain Steve Smith did not use his services in the bowling department because the Royals had two good leg-spinners in the form of Rahul Tewatia and Shreyas Gopal. With Mahipal Lomror showing promise and Manan Vohra warming the bench, Parag might return to the auction next year. 3. Varun Aaron Varun Aaron. (Photo Source: Twitter) Jharkhand-based fast bowler Varun Aaron made a name for himself with his raw pace. The fast bowler went for runs because of his improper line and lengths, but he worked on it and won the Man of the Match award against the Kolkata Knight Riders last year. A similar performance was expected from Aaron in the UAE. Unfortunately, he could not live up to the expectations. The 31-year-old speedster played three matches for the Royals, where he gave away 94 runs at an economy rate of 11.75. The fact that he could not pick up a single wicket shows how much he struggled to trouble the batsmen in IPL 2020. Aaron would look to forget this season and make a fresh start in IPL 2021. However, it is highly unlikely that he would be able to do so wearing the RR jersey. 2. Jaydev Unadkat Jaydev Unadkat. (Photo: Surjeet Yadav/IANS) Despite giving him so many opportunities in the last three seasons, the Rajasthan Royals could not get the best services from Jaydev Unadkat. The Saurashtra skipper had a dream season while playing for the Rising Pune Supergiant in 2017. He had scalped 24 wickets in just 12 matches for the IPL 2017 runners-up. However, while playing for the Rajasthan Royals, the left-arm pacer managed to take 25 wickets in 33 matches. Talking about his performance in IPL 2020, Unadkat played seven matches for the Royals, taking four wickets at an average of 57. His economy rate of 9.91 did not help his team either. Besides, AB de Villiers took him to the cleaners in the final phases of the battle between RCB and RR, and that defeat cost the Royals two crucial points. It will be interesting to see if RR release Unadkat and then buy him again for a lesser price in the IPL Auction 2021. 1. Andrew Tye Andrew Tye. (Photo Source: IPL/BCCI) Andrew Tye is a former IPL Purple Cap winner, but in the last two seasons, the Australian player has looked like a shadow of his former self. The batsmen seem to have understood his bowling style and variations as they have scored a lot of runs off his bowling in the last two IPL season. Tye played for KXIP last year and picked up three wickets in six matches at an economy rate of 10.59. The Mohali-based franchise released him and then RR signed him in the auction. The team management did not use him in the playing XI during the first few matches. However, he got a chance to play against the Delhi Capitals. Tye proved to be very expensive with the ball as he gave away 50 runs in his four overs and picked only one wicket. Expectedly, he got dropped from the playing XI and perhaps, he may lose his place in the squad soon.
