5 players we might see in Indian team once Rohit Sharma takes over captaincy

With every passing day, the number of people batting for Rohit Sharma to take over the captaincy is growing significantly. The Indian vice-captain has thus far done a tremendous job with the Mumbai Indians, leading them to an unprecedented 4 IPL titles and one Champions League T20 title in 2013. He seems to have an understanding with every player, how to approach and deal with certain individuals and some other technical know-how which are very important for a good captain. For a fairly long period of time, we saw a couple of incredible captains in Sourav Ganguly and MS Dhoni doing a fantastic job in that regard. Captaincy is not just the ability to perform with the bat and have the cunningness to take some proactive decisions, it also has a lot to do with man management. Rohit certainly has proven his credentials in this regard and he is highly likely to captain the team in the future. Here are five players who could be found more regularly in the Indian team once Rohit takes over. 1. Dinesh Karthik Dinesh Karthik. (Photo by Daniel Kalisz/Getty Images) Rohit Sharma and Dinesh Karthik played together for the Mumbai Indians in the past and the duo have a good understanding. He always believes in having a good number of senior players in the side who could assist the youngsters with their experience. With MS Dhoni pretty much on the verge of leaving the team, Karthik could be the senior guy Rohit could turn to. Having played professional cricket for nearly 15 years, Karthik brings in vast experience and that is one of the major reasons behind his inclusion in the 15-man World Cup squad despite not playing a lot of International cricket in recent times. He could be playing a good role if Rohit takes over the duties in the coming 6-12 months. 2. Krunal Pandya Krunal Pandya. (Photo Source: Twitter) It is no surprising or unknown news that Rohit Sharma is a huge admirer of the Pandya brothers. Both Hardik Pandya and Krunal Pandya have been representing the Mumbai Indians for a long time and their contribution to the side also has been phenomenal. They did play a few games together for team India, but Krunal is yet to confirm his status as a regular. One of the best all-rounders right now in the country, Krunal rotates the strike brilliantly and can also go for the big monty with the willow. He is a shrewd bowler who keeps it very tight and doesn’t concede a lot of runs. He could be a perfect fit for the current Indian side and both Pandya brothers could potentially feature in the 2023 World Cup for the side. 3. Washington Sundar Washington Sundar. The young spinner played under Rohit Sharma’s captaincy in the Nidahas Trophy and was sensational for the team throughout the tournament. He also ended up winning the man of the tournament, becoming one of the youngest in Indian history to do so. He has shown remarkable growth since he first grabbed attention in the IPL 2017 but had to spend a lot of time on the bench for the Royal Challengers Bangalore this season. Yet, he is working hard in the domestic circuit for Tamil Nadu and all of it could pay a dividend when Rohit takes charge. 4. Mayank Markande Mayank Markande. (Photo Source: Twitter) Rohit Sharma has spent two seasons with this young leg-spinner and maybe, Mayank Markande could be fighting for a place in the XI alongside Kuldeep Yadav and Yuzvendra Chahal. Although those both spinners are showing no signs of going irrelevant in the coming years, he could come in as a backup spinner. Markande has a lot of variations just like Rashid Khan and batsmen have found it difficult to pick him. Apart from the mystery factor, which might not be effective for long, Markande is very consistent with his bowling channels and that could help him go a long way in his career. 5. Rahul Chahar Rahul Chahar. (Photo by Sarah Ansell/Getty Images). Another leg-spinner who made great in-roads with the Mumbai Indians under the captaincy of Rohit Sharma is Rahul Chahar. The young leggie, also the younger brother of Deepak Chahar, has a fantastic chance of making it to the Indian side as a backup spinner. His primary battle to get picked will be against Mayank Markande, who too presents a similar case. Chahar has a similar bowling style to Yuzvendra Chahal, who bowls slow and relies on orthodox leg-breaks to get the damage. He has the odd variations up his sleeves but likes to keep things simple. Such bowlers never go out of fashion given they’re executing their plans perfectly and Chahar has shown that potential in this season’s IPL.
