While the delayed edition of the 13th IPL has been on full swing in the United Arab Emirates amidst the echo of the coronavirus pandemic, it appears that the cricketing carnival has successfully overshadowed the gloomy clouds of despondency and fear hovering over the eternal fans of the game.

It goes without saying that fans add the fuel of rage in the sporting arena. With cricket being an emotion in the country of 135 million, no amount of pandemic can break the intangible bond which the two share in the world.

Taking a cue from the impeccable relationship, the Chennai Super Kings (CSK) also share the heart-to-heart bond ever since the commencement of the cash-rich league in 2008. The Men in Yellow have given an immense opportunity for fans to wear a smile of happiness in the last 12 editions of the IPL. However, of late the yellow brigade appears to be of color which have shaken their ardent fans at the core.

On that note, this article deconstructs the names of experienced players who can don the captain’s hat in the 14th edition of the IPL provided the mega-auctions are called on prior to the tournament.

Here is a list of players who can carry the baton of CSK captaincy from the big-brain MS Dhoni:

1. Kieron Pollard

The West Indies vintage all-rounder is known for his poised persona which gives him an edge to direct the team’s ship in the direction of triumph. Carrying truckloads of experience under his sleeves, he is one of the most renowned players in the shortest format of the game. The destructive all-rounder is plying his trade for Mumbai Indians and has outperformed opposition teams with his guile and bellicose.

The 33-year-old match-winner lends an extra-weightage of advantage to any team he plays for. Hitting out-of-the-park sixes from the word go, the talisman does not hesitate to exhibit his muscle-power whenever the team demands from him.

Pollard ticks all boxes for cladding the captain’s hat. Justifying his leadership skills is his elegant display of composure on the field. He has shouldered the weight of stewardship representing West Indies last year after the team’s poor run in the 2019 World Cup. Hence, Pollard can be under the yellow-hammer in the upcoming mega auctions.

2. Kane Williamson

The New Zealand cricketing maestro has been a spectator’s delight from the time he steps on to the cricketing field. Making fans and experts drool over his exploits, he has an indefinite tendency to adjust himself depending on the situation.

Carrying the baton of succession from the Kiwi-king Brendon McCullum, Kane has developed the leadership skills over the years with progression. The right-hander led his troops courageously as the Black Caps finished as the runners-up in the 2019 World Cup stamping his authority in the true sense of the term.

The 30-year-old has is currently plying his trade for Sunrisers Hyderabad under the captainship of David Warner. Therefore, it would make sense in the greater scheme of things to trade the talisman as the new captain of the yellow brigade.

3. Aaron Finch

The Australian cricket team have a unique approach that allows him to lead by example. Finch is the most destructive top-order batsman on his day. The ability to dispatch the white ball into the stands from the very first ball is what gives him an edge to take on the opposition with chest held high.

Raising his hand with grit and courage, the pinch-hitter has mastered the art of holding his nerves at crucial moments over the years. He led his knights in the 2019 World Cup in England and Wales. However, the yellow jersey lost its significance in the semi final against England.

Of late, the muscular man is serving Royal Challengers Bangalore as an opener under the captainship of Virat Kohli. With mega auctions seemingly inching closer, Aaron Finch can turn out to be the player to watch out for.

4. Eoin Morgan

The Irish-born southpaw has seen his trajectory going upwards as far as his cricketing career is concerned. The England captain took his side to a phenomenal victory in the previous World Cup in 2019. The power-packed cricketing dynamo is a non-conventional batsman who can exploit all the plans of the bowlers on his day.

Exhibiting his leadership quality for England, Eoin has marched with his knights from strength to strength. The mojo artist radiates a myriad of confidence to his players whenever they need from him. Fighting till the last ball is bowled, he is a stellar batsman who can win games with his wits and cricketing brains.

Currently, the decimator is hunting down huge scores at ease with his brilliant willow-work. Demonstrating his power-knocks for the Kolkata Knight Riders, Eoin Morgan stands to be one of the favourite options that CSK team management may keep an eye on in the upcoming mega auctions for the 14th edition of the IPL.

5. Faf Du Plessis

The former South Africa captain can steal the show with his batting prowess. Having a wide variety of shots in his cricketing book, Faf has played a vital role in taking the Proteas team to new heights. However, his poor display of form snatched away his power of captainship.

He provides the team with an impetus to set the scoreboard on fire. The opener batsman always repays the trust which the team management pours on him with excellent performance on the field whether it be with hands or bat.

Currently, Faf is scratching his head to take on the powerful opposition with the comforts of his bat. With Chennai Super Kings stationed at the lower-rung of the points table, it will be delightful to see how Faf turns the table on the team’s side single-handedly if no one could back him up.

If speculations are to be believed, he is seen as the first option by the CSK team management to don the captain’s hat after MS Dhoni bids adieu to the yellow brigade in style.
