5 Records of Sachin Tendulkar that will remain unbreakable forever

Sachin Tendulkar was, perhaps, the most complete batsman of all time. His international career lasted for 24 years and the way the Wankhede crowd was chanting, ‘Sachin Sachin!’ in his final Test was the testament to what he had achieved. It goes without saying that the master blaster owned almost every batting records when he hung his boots from the game. He was the first ever batsman in Men’s cricket to breach the 200-run barrier in the ODIs which came against South Africa in Gwalior. Even his record of 49 centuries in the 50-over format seemed unbreakable. But the current Indian captain Virat Kohli seems to be on the way to own this record while several batsmen have also crossed the 200-run mark. However, there are still a few records which Sachin Tendulkar and are unlikely to be broken forever. Here we bring you five Sachin Tendulkar records which will remain unbreakable: 1. Most runs in Tests and ODIs Sachin Tendulkar. (Photo Source: Twitter) Sachin Tendulkar was an absolute machine when it came to scoring runs irrespective of the format. He used to love batting for hours, especially in Tests, and that has led to some him amassing some unbelievable numbers. Sachin ended his 200-match career in whites with 15921 runs to his name. Yes, the man alone scored almost 16k runs in a single format which some of the players don’t even do in their entire career across all forms of the game. He averaged a staggering 53.71 in the purest format of the game and is seems unlikely if any one will come close to his record of runs in his format. Now not that, he was only good at batting in Tests. Remember, he was the first ever batsman to score a double hundred in ODIs. He was a beast in the coloured clothing as well. 18426 – These are the number of runs he scored in the 50-over format. Isn’t it stunning? No matter how many years you play, one needs amazing consistency to achieve such numbers and Sachin Tendulkar averaged 44.83 in the ODIs as well. He played 463 matches in the blue jersey and went on to score 49 centuries. 2. 51 Test centuries Sachin Tendulkar. It tests a player’s character to the hilt and the ones who come out of it with flying colours are considered legends. And this man has scored 51 centuries in the format which is just astonishing. His favourite opposition as Australia against whom the master racked up 11 tons in 39 matches scoring 3630 runs at an average of 55. 29 of his 51 tons came outside India while 17 of them came in the SENA countries (South Africa, England, New Zealand, Australia) which has been the parameter to judge a batsman from subcontinent these days. These stats simply prove that Sachin Tendulkar wasn’t just a home track bully and pummelled the bowlers from all countries in all sorts of conditions. Not that he never went out of from or faced a slump in his career. But every time he was pushed to the corner, Sachin Tendulkar came back strongly. Very few must have forgotten his unbeaten 241-run knock in Sydney in the New Year Test in 2004 when he didn’t play a single cover drive throughout the innings as he had got out a few times playing the same shot earlier in the series. Such was his temperament and no wonder he holds the record of the most tons in Tests. 3. But it isn’t a world record. Many other players have played for so many years but none of them is close to him when it comes to the record of longest ODI career. Tendulkar’s One-Day International career lasted for a staggering 22 years and 91 days (Days considered when he played his last ODI). He made his debut in the 50-over format against the arch-rivals Pakistan on December 18 in Gujranwala and the rest is history. It was a game to forget for the master blaster and India as well. India failed to chased down 88 runs in a 16-over affair in which he bagged a second-ball duck getting out to Waqar Younis. However, the bad start didn’t deter the 16-year-old kid and went on to carve a memorable career for himself. As fate had it, Sachin Tendulkar played the last ODI, 463rd, of his career, against Pakistan itself (March 18, 2012) which is remembered for Virat Kohli’s magnificent 183 in the 330-run chase. Even Sachin had played his part in the chase scoring 52 off just 48 deliveries. But not many thought that it would be the last game of his ODI career as he retired later in the year. 4. He played his first game of the mega event in 1992 and ended up winning the elusive trophy in 2011 at his home ground, Wankhede stadium, when India defeated Sri Lanka. And that’s not it. Like he did throughout his career, Sachin also amassed runs in the World Cup. He scored 2278 runs across six World Cups at an astonishing average of 56.95. He also smacked six centuries and 15 half-centuries. Add to it, the 241 fours which he hit leaving the fans across the world in awe of his batting. He also holds the record of hitting most fours in the 50-over mega event. In terms of runs scored in the World Cups, his nearest competitor is Ricky Ponting who is 535 runs behind him in this aspect. And amongst the active cricketers, no one even comes close to him. 5. Most number of Test matches Sachin Tendulkar. The 200th game also proved the last of his celebrated international career which was played at the Wankhede stadium against the West Indies. While India won that game inside three days, it was never about the result of the game that day. It was all about one man, Sachin Tendulkar, who spent his life playing cricket for India. The reason we are saying that it is impossible for someone to play 200 Tests is because of the demands of the international cricket in the modern era. T20 format is the most popular one these days and even though the likes of Virat Kohli and Steve Smith endorse Tests as the purest form of the game, every country at most plays around 10 Tests in a year. The number gets reduced even further if is a World Cup year. So, definitely it will remain a dream for the current crop of cricketers to play 200 Tests before retiring.
