5 Sri Lanka players to watch out for in World T20

World T20 defending champions Sri Lanka are placed in Group 1 of the main draw of the 2016 edition along with South Africa, West Indies, England and Afghanistan. Sri Lanka has not had a good last few months when it comes to the T20I format. They lost T20I series against New Zealand and India and were also beaten by Bangladesh in the Asia Cup T20, where they won only one match, against UAE. Another bad news for them was that their then T20I captain Lasith Malinga injured his knee and was ruled out of the remaining of the Asia Cup after the first match. He announced that he was stepping down from captaincy and whether Malinga will be fit in time for the World T20 2016, remains to be seen. But here are 5 other players from the team that other teams should be vary of in the tournament: 1. Dushmanta Chameera Dushmantha-Chameera. (© Ishara S.KODIKARA/AFP/Getty Images) Sri Lanka was always looking for their next fast bowler as they saw Lasith Malinga breaking down regularly in the last 2 years. They didn’t have to look far ahead as they unearthed their strike bowler for the future. Meet Dushmanta Chameera, who constantly bowls at 140+ and has troubled the best of batsmen all over the world. He impressed everyone on the recent tour to New Zealand when he combined pace with seam and troubled the Kiwis. He was also impressive against the Indian team in the 3 match T20I series recently and will be Sri Lanka’s biggest weapon, if Malinga pulls out of the tournament due to injury. 2. (Photo by Ishara S.KODIKARA/AFP/Getty Images) Tillakaratne Dilshan, the veteran Sri Lankan opener might be appearing in his final World T20 competition and would like to go out as a two-time champion. Dilshan showed that he still had the goods when it was the time to deliver during the India series and the Asia Cup T20 recently. Dilshan still puts the fear of his blade in the hearts of the bowlers and his ability to roll his arm over in every game gives the captain the option to play an extra bowler or batsman. Dilshan will look to go out on a high, probably as a champion once again. 3. Lahiru Thirimanne Lahiru Thirimanne (Photo Source: Twitter) Lahiru Thirimanne was drafted into the side, after all the experts and fans supported him, thanks to his blistering form in the Sri Lankan domestic competitions recently. He was overlooked for the India series and the Asia Cup T20, but when the Sri Lankan batting failed to cope up to the brilliant bowling in the likes of R.Ashwin, Shakib Al Hasan and Ravindra Jadeja in the last two series, they had no option but to bring Thirimanne back. 4. Angelo Mathews Sri Lanka’s Angelo Mathews. (Photo by INDRANIL MUKHERJEE/AFP/Getty Images) Angelo Mathews took over as the T20 captain of Sri Lankan team after Malinga stepped down due to his injury and uncertainty over participation in the ICC World T20. Mathews who captains Sri Lanka in the other two formats has the ability to turn the game over with his bat or ball anytime. Mathews is also a brilliant statistician and Sri Lanka would want him to take and inspire the team in the World T20 so that the past disappointments of Asia Cup T20, India and New Zealand series will be washed away. 5. Dinesh Chandimal Dinesh Chandimal. (Photo Source: ICC) The only Sri Lankan batsman who has seemed to know what he should do is Dinesh Chandimal. The wicket-keeper batsman has been in terrific form for the last 6 months or so and has impressed everyone with both his batting and keeping. Chandimal who gave the fight back to the Indian, Bangladeshi and Pakistani bowling in the Asia cup, while all the other batsmen seemed to be playing on some other wicket altogether. Sri Lanka will want Chandimal to provide them with a good start and a finish while anchoring the innings in the World T20 2016.
