During the seventh over of the Indian innings in the 2nd ODI against Zimbabwe in 2013, Kohli was involved in a controversial dismissal. In an attempt to go past the mid-wicket off medium-pacer Kyle Jarvis, Kohli was caught by the fielder Malcolm Waller.

The fielder was not sure about the catch being taken cleanly and requested a review from the umpire. Although the replays could not clear the doubt of a proper catch, Kohli was given out, which irked him. He even argued with both on-field umpires regarding the decision.

Kohli expressed his displeasure over the decision by throwing his bat in anger and walking back to the pavilion shaking his head. Although he could score only 14, the team managed to win the match by 58 runs.
