Former Australian cricketer Shane Watson, who had announced his retirement from IPL last year, made a startling claim regarding the team-management of franchise Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) as he reckoned that the RCB owners didn’t have any emotional connection with the players or the franchise. Watson believed that it was due to the fact that the franchise was run by a proper corporate company.

Shane Watson was signed up by the Bangalore outfit in 2016 after Rajasthan Royals was suspended for two years following the spot-fixing scandal. Watson plied his trade for the team for two years before getting signed up by Chennai Super Kings (CSK) during 2018 auctions. Meanwhile, the veteran termed playing for RCB as an enriching experience due to the presence of some extraordinary players.

“RCB was a great experience because of the caliber of players I played with. It was run by Diageo which is sort of a Johnny Walker company, so it was more corporately – sort of – run, which is different. There’s no real emotional connection with the owners who put in their heart and soul into it,” Watson had said.
