It is amazing how the 13th edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL) brought back the smiles on the glum faces of cricket fans. From the last eight weeks, it has been entertaining the audience with its pure cricketing action in these toughest of times. Unfortunately, every good thing comes to an end, and it was no different when Mumbai Indians beat Delhi Capitals in the IPL 2020 final.

It brought down the curtains on one of the most memorable seasons of this annual event. Having said that, the fans should not be dejected as the next edition is likely to take place in six months’ time. There are already reports that the preparations for the IPL 2021 are on the way. There might be an auction at the start of the next year.

And before that, the teams can also swap a few of their players in the trade window. In recent times, some trades have changed the fortunes of sides. Hence this time everyone will keep a close eye on the list of players being traded as some of them might turn out to be season-defining in IPL 2021.

After all that build-up, the Delhi Capitals lost their maiden IPL final rather tamely. The team couldn’t push the Mumbai Indians out of their comfort zone and ran out of gas at the wrong time. But in all fairness, this is the best side Delhi have shaped up in years, and that’s why they should not make too many changes before the next season. Maybe they should try to bring in a quality Indian fast bowler in their mix.

They can fill that void in the trade window. And one of the players Delhi should look to trade is the out-of-form Prithvi Shaw. The right-hander went through a lean patch in the second half of the season. He couldn’t gather himself after a couple of failures. Thereafter, even when he returned to the playing XI, he was playing under pressure. Hence it seems that the 21-year-old needs a fresh start.

And that’s where Chennai Super Kings come in. They can trade a player like Shardul Thakur for Shaw. CSK needs some free-flowing batsmen at the top, and Prithvi can be a good option for them. He can form a dynamic opening pair with the team’s newfound gem, Ruturaj Gaekwad. And if things go right, he can also become one of their core players in the coming times.
