5 unexpected call-ups in India squad for Sri Lanka tour
In the absence of some big names, the below-mentioned players have a chance to show their mettle at the highst level.
2. Devdutt Padikkal
Devdutt Padikkal has been taking giant strides since his IPL debut. In 21 games, he has scored 668 runs for RCB. Under Kohli’s leadership, he has been phenomenal. Last year, he was able to give solid starts to RCB as they finished fourth during the season.
And because of his terrific form during the first half of the tournament, Padikkal has been rewarded with a national call-up. It is almost certain that either he or Gaikwad will open the batting for Team India. It will be interesting to see if the management opts for a left-left batting combination or a left-right batting combination for the opening slot.
Padikkal had scored a beautiful century against the Royals. In his knock of 101, he was supported by his captain and they managed to make a competitive score look like an easy one. Devdutt is a future star for the team and this is a great opportunity for him. If he succeeds, he could make it to the national squad regularly.
