At the moment, the South African bowling attack is dominated by Kagiso Rabada, Morne Morkel, and Kyle Abbott. This sees Vernon Philander nail down only a Test match spot. While the 32-year old has been thrashed around the park in ODIs and T20Is, he is simply unplayable in Test matches. Moreover, he is one of the top-ranked bowlers in Test cricket, something that makes him a special asset in the longest format. While he boasts of 126 wickets in Test matches, he has just 41 wickets in ODIs. That should tell you a story.
