5 young Indian pacers who can consistently bowl 150 kph in the future
Pace is not something that you can work on. It comes naturally and these five bowlers have got the ability to bowl at high speeds consistently.
Even though they have produced many quality pacers over the years, India was never known to be a ‘pace powerhouse’. The nation has always produced quality and crafty pacers. But there aren’t many notable names who rush or terrify the batsmen with their pace.
There have been a few players who have impressed with their pace but most of them failed to maintain the consistency. But in the next few years, the various notions about the Indian pacers are set to change forever. The current phase is by far the best for pace bowling in the history of Indian cricket.
India has been manufacturing some great fast bowlers in recent times who are doing well in tandem. They all bowl quick and hit 140s or thereabouts. At the same time, several fast bowlers are raising up the ranks and are showing a lot of promise. Some of these bowlers can surely hit the 150kph mark on a consistent basis in the near future.
Here are five Indian pacers who can terrify the batsmen with their pace:
Basil Thampi
Basil Thampi from Kerala is one of the finest emerging prospects in Indian cricket. Right in his debut IPL season for the Gujarat Lions in 2017, the pacer caught the eyes of one and all with his pace and accuracy. Suresh Raina entrusted him to bowl the death overs in that season and he did a fair job. Even though he was slightly expensive, he impressed everyone with yorkers which he nailed at will.
In the 2018 auction, the Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) included him in their academy of fast bowlers. He played a few games for the team but was left out of the eleven after he conceded 70 runs in four overs against RCB – the most expensive figures in the history of IPL.
However, Thampi continues to work hard on his bowling and has been sweating it out at the MRF Pace Academy under the guidance of Glenn McGrath. The pacer often hits the early 140s. Since he is really well built, he can possibly work on a few more aspects of his bowling if he is to hit the 150s consistently.
Shivam Mavi
The 20-year-old Shivam Mavi, who idolises Dale Steyn, has made quite a name for himself right in the U19 World Cup. He along with Kamlesh Nagarkoti grabbed everyone’s attention with their sheer pace. Even though he doesn’t have the body frame that some of the most intimidating fast bowlers have, he just knows how to extract some sheer pace and has got an excellent run up to the crease.
He constantly hits speeds over 140 kph and the way he hurried the Australian batsmen in that World Cup was a delight to watch. Had it not been for the injuries, Mavi might have made rapid progress by now. The pacer has hit the 150 kph mark on quite a few occasions. A few tweaks to his bowling action can help him hit the top pace on a consistent basis.
Prasidh Krishna
In the last year, one aspect that Prasidh Krishna improved the most about his game was his pace. Even though he has leaked a lot of runs just as he did in IPL 2018, Prasidh has consistently hit great speeds in the 2019 edition of the tournament and the attribute has been highly impressive.
For someone who has started off as the net bowler for the Royal Challengers Bangalore, he has progressed a great deal in his career. The Karnataka pacer might not have been amongst the wickets. But he is just 22 years old at the moment. He surely has got a long career ahead of him.
While he has got immense talent, there are many aspects of his game that he needs to work upon to sustain at the highest level. Prasidh should focus on tying the batsmen down with his lines and lengths. With the kind of pace that he is bowling at the moment, the pacer can definitely hit high speeds at a consistent rate in the near future.
Khaleel Ahmed
Khaleel Ahmed is another exciting prospect who is quickly ascending up the ranks in Indian cricket. He made his debut at the highest level last year. However, he failed to replicate his domestic cricket success at the international level. While he has a truckload of potential, consistency has been his biggest nemesis.
At one point in time, Khaleel was also in the contention to make it to the World Cup squad. But, poor performances in Australia and New Zealand this year saw him out of the squad. The left-arm pacer usually bowls in the late 130s and often clicks the 140s as well. If he can work on the strength aspect of his game, Khaleel can surely hit the 150 kph mark and be one of the best bowlers in the Indian set-up.
Navdeep Saini
If one young Indian pacer, who has been highly impressive in IPL 2019, has to be picked, it must be Navdeep Saini. The Delhi pacer hailing from Karnal has often rushed the batsmen with his sheer pace this season. He has been one of the fastest Indian bowlers in this edition of the IPL and also proved that he’s a quick learner.
The pacer went for quite a few runs in the first few games. He was wayward and didn’t seem to have much control over his bowling. But as the tournament progressed forward, he has evolved leaps and bounds as a bowler. He is hitting tighter lines at the moment and doing exceptionally well at the death.
Navdeep is already hitting the 150kph mark on quite a few occasions. It would only be a matter of time before he clocks that speed consistently.
