5 Youngest captains in IPL history
Some of these cricketers have become permanent skippers of their IPL teams after donning the captaincy hat way early in their IPL career.
5) Dinesh Karthik, 24 years 292 days
Some cricketers never reach the desired heights in their career and the prime example is Dinesh Karthik’s cricketing journey. The keeper-batsman got his India Cap way back in 2004 but has never been able to establish himself in the senior team. Apart from him his last over heroics in the 2018 Nidahas Trophy final he has always flattered to deceive. It appears as if he has failed to break the code in the international arena.
The Tamil Nadu cricketer will be considered one of the underachievers of the Indian cricket. The same can be said about his IPL career as he has been part of 6 teams in 12 years. Even after bagging elusive contracts Karthik has not lived up to his billing in most of the seasons. Still, his domestic success has earned him multiple opportunities in the league.
Currently, he is guiding the young Kolkata team. Having said that Karthik has played the same role in the past for the Delhi franchise. In the 2010 IPL when Gautam Gambhir missed a few games owing to a hamstring injury, Karthik took over the duties from him for a brief period. He became their stand-in skipper for 4 games. His experience of leading his domestic team came to the fore as the team won 2 ties under his reign.
