6 All-rounders to watch out for in World T20

A quality all-rounder in the slam-bang version of cricket is the most valuable asset for any team. Bowling in the shortest format of the game, T20, is a challenging job. The format is accustomed to flat pitches which not only test a bowler’s patience but also his skills. The all-rounders usually do the finishing job which is never an easy one. Trying to clear the fence straight away after walking into bat is a challenge. The World T20 in India will witness some of the world’s best all-rounders showcasing their skills. Here’s a list of 6 all-rounders who could have a major say for their respective teams in the global event: 1. Andre Russell: West Indies Cricketer Andre Russell. (Photo by LAKRUWAN WANNIARACHCHI/AFP/Getty Images) The West Indian all-rounder is a genuine match-winner. An ability to score runs under pressure has become his forte. A huge hitter of the ball he is also a fine fast bowler. One of the most sought after all-rounders in T20 leagues around the world, Russell is also a brilliant fielder and hence contributes in every department for his team. Russell bowls with the new ball and is capable of generating good pace. His batting though remains his most potent weapon. His 27 T20Is innings have produced 219 runs and he has taken 11. His overall T20 record of 2669 runs and 158 wickets from 188 matches suggest that it is just a matter of time before his international record improves. The Windies will hope it happens in the World T20. 2. Chris Morris: Chris Morris. (Photo by RODGER BOSCH/AFP/Getty Images) The bustling, big-hitting all-rounder, Chris Morris has been in news recently with his strong show for South Africa. Morris was a bit of a late bloomer but his eventual rise has been worth the wait for his country. He is a pacy opening bowler who often sends the speed gun beyond 140kph. Apart from speed, his accuracy with the ball and fearless lower-order ability with the bat have resulted in him earning big bucks in IPL. He recently played some match-winning cameos against England and gave a glimpse of his immense potential. His 3 T20I innings have produced 25 runs and 10 wickets. His 101 T20 matches have resulted in 621 runs and 126 wickets. 3. Ben Stokes: Ben Stokes. (© Getty Images) Ben Stokes recently played one of the great attacking Test innings against South Africa. Stokes scored the second fastest double century in Test history which was an utter joy to watch and those fans that were at Newlands to see it, must have been enriched by the experience. Stokes’ destructive knock produced 258 from 198 balls with 30 fours and 11 sixes. Stokes is that rare thing in English cricket: a true allrounder, and what is more a pugnacious as well as talented one, naturally combative, not cowed by confrontation. His 9 T20Is innings have produced 86 runs and 4 wickets. His 60 T20s have yielded 1075 runs and 26 wickets. England will rely heavily on him and Jos Buttler if they are to do well in India. 4. Hardik Pandya: (Photo Source: BCCI) Hardik Pandya has created a lot of buzz since making his debut against Australia. Pandya has been marked as the seam bowling all-rounder for the future, given his ability bowl nippy seam up and hard-hitting prowess. The ambitious youngster has started to prove his worth in his young international career. His 5 T20I innings have produced 62 runs and 10 wickets. In his 48 T20s he has scored 942 runs and taken 37 wickets. Pandya is a strong hitter of the ball who can comfortably clear any fence. His bowling has the speed to the batsmen honest and he bowls a decent bouncer. Much is expected by Indian cricket from this talented all-rounder. 5. Corey Anderson: Corey Anderson of New Zealand. (Photo by MICHAEL BRADLEY/AFP/Getty Images) New Zealander Corey Anderson had always been known for his powerful striking, but he took it to a new level on New Year’s Day in 2014 when he broke the then world record for the fastest ODI hundred with a 36-ball blitzkrieg against West Indies. It came at a time, a few months after he had scored a century in his second Test that Anderson was suggesting he was ready to fulfil the potential spotted in him as a teenager. He has managed to live up to the expectations ever since. His 13 T20Is have resulted in 229 runs and 12 wickets. His 67 T20 matches have yielded 1011 runs and 22 wickets. Anderson missed a lot of cricket due to an injury he sustained last year hence must be eager to stamp his authority in India. 6. Mitchell Marsh: Mitchell Marsh. (Photo Source: Getty Images) A tall all-rounder who idolised Steve Waugh and Jacques Kallis, Mitchell Marsh was earmarked for higher honours ever since he captained the Australia Under-19s to victory in the 2010 World Cup in New Zealand. The international call-up came when, at the age of 19, he was picked in Australia’s Twenty20 squad to tour South Africa in late 2011. He has only recently become a regular member of the national side. Marsh is a fine-seam bowler and a massive striker of the ball. His 5 T20Is have produced 97 runs and 2 wickets. He has played 52 T20s and scored 1067 runs taken 31 wickets.
