Mohammad Hafeez is one of the greatest all-rounders in the history of Pakistan cricket. He played under the Pakistan flag for almost 18 years. Ross Taylor is one of the finest batters to play for New Zealand. He announced his retirement from international cricket on 4 April 2022 after representing his country for 16 years. Taylor&#8217;s last game was against the Netherlands at Hamilton.

Tim Bresnan was the medium-fast bowler who represented England for nine years. The Yorkshire-born cricketer didn&#8217;t receive much recognition in the international arena but he was a successfully first-class cricketer. He announced his retirement from international cricket on 31 January 2022.

The left-handed opener from Sri Lanka Danushka Gunathilaka announced his retirement from Test cricket in January 2022. He didn&#8217;t attain much success in the red-ball format and decided to call time to prolong his white-ball career.

The 31-year-old cricketer made his Test debut against <a href="https://www.crictracker.com/indias-west-indies-tour-start-on-july-22-two-t20is-in-us/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">India</a> in 2017 at Galle. The hard-hitting all-rounder from South Africa Chris Morris announced his retirement from all forms of the game in January this year. Chris Morris was immensely talented but never managed to live up to his potential apart from a few notable performances here and there.

The tall and lanky cricketer made his debut in international cricket in a T20I game against New Zealand. The 35-year-old fast bowler from Sri Lanka called time on his international career earlier this year after the Test series against India. The tall and lanky fast bowler led Sri Lanka&#8217;s pace in the last few years. He also captained the side in five Test matches.

Overall, Suranga Lakmal has played 167 matches for Sri Lanka and took 288 wickets, including four five-wicket hauls. He is the fourth-highest wicket-taker in Test matches for the Islanders. Retirement is an inevitable stage of life, everyone has to retire on a certain day. It also pertains to cricket. Some players take retirement due to their poor form and some take <a href="https://www.crictracker.com/pakistan-pacer-shaheen-afridi-takes-a-hilarious-jibe-on-his-teammate-rizwan/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">retirement</a> due to age. With the growing demands of international cricket, many cricketers also retire from one format to concentrate on the others. 
From New Zealand legend Ross Taylor to West Indies giant Kieron Pollard, we witnessed a couple of cricketers bidding farewell to the international arena in 2022. Their fans are stunned because they believe that these cricketers could play for some more time as they still have a lot of capabilities to perform well on the field. On that note, let&#8217;s take a look at eight cricketers who have announced retirement so far in 2022.

<h3>1. Mohammad Hafeez</h3>

Mohammad Hafeez is one of the greatest all-rounders in the history of Pakistan cricket. He played under the Pakistan flag for almost 18 years. He is considered one of the most intelligent batsmen in Pakistan. He could bat at No. 3 and even at the lower order. Besides, he was also more than a handy off-spin bowler. 
Suddenly, he declared his retirement from international cricket earlier this year on social media. Hafeez played his last T20 International match against <a href="https://www.crictracker.com/australias-travis-head-and-fiancee-jessica-davies-survive-a-terrifying-plane-journey/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Australia</a> last year in November. He announced his retirement from international Test cricket in 2018. 
Hafeez made his international debut in 2003 against Zimbabwe. Since then, he has been relentless in the field. He played 392 International matches for Pakistan and scored 12780 runs with the help of 21 centuries and 64 half-centuries. He also has 253 wickets under his belt. He made an impactful performance in the 2017 ICC Champions trophy and has been part of Pakistan&#8217;s many World Cup campaigns.

Ross Taylor is one of the finest batters to play for New Zealand. He announced his retirement from international cricket on 4 April 2022 after representing his country for 16 years. Taylor&#8217;s last game was against the Netherlands at Hamilton. 
He is the first New Zealand batsman, who played 100 matches across all formats of cricket. He represented the Kiwis in the 450 matches which is a record for most international appearances for New Zealand. He scored 18,199 runs for New Zealand which is the most by any batsman.
He made his debut in international cricket on 1 March 2006 against West Indies. Since then, he was tremendous, and whenever the team needed an outstanding performance, he delivered. He played 450 matches for <a href="https://www.crictracker.com/new-zealand-name-20-player-squad-for-england-tests-skipper-kane-williamson-returns/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">New Zealand</a> and scored 18,199 runs with the help of 40 centuries and 93 half-centuries. He was a part of four World Cup campaigns and carried the team to the finals in the 2019 World Cup.

Tim Bresnan was the medium-fast bowler who represented England for nine years. The Yorkshire-born cricketer didn&#8217;t receive much recognition in the international arena but he was a successfully first-class cricketer. He announced his retirement from international cricket on 31 January 2022.   
Bresnan made his debut in international cricket on 15 June 2006 against Australia. Soon, he got a chance to represent his country in Tests when Andrew Flintoff was ruled out from the series against the West Indies. 
Bresnan was part of the England Test side in the 2010-11 Ashes and helped England bowl out Australia for 98 runs in Melbourne. He grabbed two wickets in that innings, including the wickets of <a href="https://www.crictracker.com/michael-clarke-remembers-phil-hughes-on-his-birth-anniversary/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Phil Hughes</a> and Brad Haddin. Overall, Tim Bresnan played 142 matches for England and took 205 Wickets. He was a handy batsman also and scored 1662 runs in his international cricket career.

<h3>4. Danushka Gunathilaka </h3>

The left-handed opener from Sri Lanka Danushka Gunathilaka announced his retirement from Test cricket in January 2022. He didn&#8217;t attain much success in the red-ball format and decided to call time to prolong his white-ball career.
The 31-year-old cricketer made his Test debut against <a href="https://www.crictracker.com/indias-west-indies-tour-start-on-july-22-two-t20is-in-us/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">India</a> in 2017 at Galle. However, he didn&#8217;t get much success in the longest format of the game. Gunathilaka played only eight Test matches and scored 299 runs with a decent average of 18.68, including two half-centuries.
Meanwhile, he has had a relatively decent career in the limited-overs format. The Sri Lankan has scored over 2000 runs in 80 white-ball matches, including 13 half-centuries and two hundred. He was part of Sri Lanka&#8217;s last T20 assignment against India.

<h3>5. Chris Morris</h3>

The hard-hitting all-rounder from South Africa Chris Morris announced his retirement from all forms of the game in January this year. Chris Morris was immensely talented but never managed to live up to his potential apart from a few notable performances here and there.
The tall and lanky cricketer made his debut in international cricket in a T20I game against New Zealand. He was a part of South Africa&#8217;s 2019 ICC ODI World Cup squad after being named as a replacement for injured <a href="https://www.crictracker.com/its-a-question-i-get-asked-a-lot-but-bowling-fast-is-not-something-i-think-about-anrich-nortje/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Anrich Nortje</a>. He finished as their leading wicket-taker, picking up 13 wickets in eight matches.
Overall, Chris Morris played 69 matches for South Africa and scored 773 runs with the help of three half-centuries. He has also scalped 94 wickets in his career, including three four-wicket hauls. 

<h3>6. Suranga Lakmal</h3>

The 35-year-old fast bowler from Sri Lanka called time on his international career earlier this year after the Test series against India. The tall and lanky fast bowler led Sri Lanka&#8217;s pace in the last few years. He also captained the side in five Test matches.
Overall, Suranga Lakmal has played 167 matches for Sri Lanka and took 288 wickets, including four five-wicket hauls. He is the fourth-highest wicket-taker in Test matches for the Islanders. He played a massive role in beating <a href="https://www.crictracker.com/south-africas-thando-ntini-starts-training-under-indian-coach-dinesh-lad-in-mumbai/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">South Africa</a> in 2019 which is arguably Sri Lanka&#8217;s greatest Test victory in history.
Lakmal bowled with a big heart and gave every ounce on the cricket field. After his international retirement, he strikes a two-year County deal with Derbyshire, which will see the fast bowler reunite with Mickey Arthur.

One of the greatest all-rounders to feature in the shortest format of the game, Kieron Pollard announced his international retirement last month. He was the reigning captain of West Indies when he decided to call time on his international career.
Pollard made his debut in 2007 against South Africa at St. George. Since then, he has played 224 matches and smashed 4275 runs with the help of three centuries and 19 half-centuries. He was very useful with the bowl as well and took 97 wickets, including one four-wicket haul.
The veteran all-rounder smashed six sixes in an over against Sri Lanka. He is the 3rd player in the history of cricket and the second player in the t20 Internationals after <a href="https://www.crictracker.com/test-cricket-is-dying-people-want-to-watch-and-play-t20-cricket-yuvraj-singh/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Yuvraj Singh</a>. Overall, Pollard has captained West Indies in 63 matches, winning 26 of those.

A right-arm medium-fast bowler in New Zealand, Hamish Bennet announced his retirement from all cricket, bringing the curtains down on a 17-year long career. Despite boasting immense talent, Bennet couldn&#8217;t make it big in international cricket.
The 6ft 3-inch bowler, who was famous for his high-arm bowling action, made his Test debut in the same game that of <a href="https://www.crictracker.com/hes-got-no-issues-at-all-nz-head-coach-gary-stead-confirms-kane-williamson-fit-for-england-tests/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Kane Williamson</a>. He bowled 15 wicketless overs before a groin injury ruled him out of the game. He didn&#8217;t play any Test match since then.
