Young leg spinner Rahul Chahar made the headlines when he scalped the all important wicket of Hashim Amla on his IPL debut for Rising Pune Supergiant. With a start as promising as that, the fans were forced to wonder who the young 17 year old bowler was. For that stats keeper, he had made it to the side in IPL 2017 at the expense of his brother Deepak Chahar.

Rahul started off his cricket career on a high and is being tipped to be the next big thing from Rajasthan. He has a deceptive googly in his armory which he mixes up with his stock leg break delivery. The young Chahar is relatively new to the First Class career but since he has made such an early start at the big stage, there is certainly a very bright future that lies ahead of him. Here are some of the facts about the young promising leggie from Rajasthan – Rahul Chahar:

1. Roots and beginnings

Rahul Desraj Chahar was born on August 4, 1999 at Bharaatpur in Rajasthan. He made an early start to his career and took to tape ball cricket as young kid.

2. Cricket in his blood

His brother, Deepak Chahar, is also a state player and a veteran for the Rajasthan team in the Indian domestic circuit. Deepak was also seen as a big superstar when he had scalped figures of 8/10 in his First Class debut match against Hyderabad that saw the opposition being bowled out for 21.

3. Rising up the ranks

He made a steady progress in the age group levels to eventually find a place in the Rajasthan line up. He got into the U16 state and then made a steady progress to the U19 and the U22 side as well.

4. Making his First Class debut at the age of 16

At the very young age of 16, Rahul made his First Class debut for Rajasthan against Odisha suring the 2016-17 Ranji Trophy. He bagged 1/24 on his debut.

5. List A debut following soon

In the very same season, he found himself in the Rajasthan squad for the 2016-17 Vijay Hazare Trophy against Madhya Pradesh. He went on to play 5 matches in the series and returned with 6 wickets. He had his best figures of 3/33 in the tournament.

6. An emerging talent

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) identified his talent soon enough and drafted him in the squad for India U23 in the ACC Emerging Teams Cup 2017 held in Bangladesh. He returned with figured of 2/51 on debut in the tournament.

7. IPL Contract follows soon

In the 2017 IPL auctions, he was bought for his base price of INR 10 Lakh by the Rising Pune Supergiant.

8. IPL debut was the T20 debut

His IPL debut was also his T20 debut. He had no experience of playing T20 cricket. He did not play in the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy in the 2016-17 season – a season where he made his FC and List A debut. Hashim Amla became his first IPL wicket.
