Kumar Sangakkara’s farewell speech: Legendary Sri Lankan cricketer Kumar Sangakkara’s illustrious career came to an end after India beat the home side by 278 runs in the 2nd Test at Colombo. In his retirement speech lasting nearly eight minutes the Sri Lankan stalwart thanked everyone from his school, club, teammates to Indian Test skipper Virat Kohli and the Indian team. Sangakkara is a man who rarely gets emotional but he broke down while mentioning his family, parents and their contribution to his game. In his speech, the southpaw, who has scored 12,400 runs from 134 Test matches, also praised Virat Kohli-led Indian team who were brilliant in the match and spoiled his perfect farewell. India went on to win the second and final Test against the West Indies in Mumbai by innings and 126 runs to seal the series 2-0 and present Tendulkar with a perfect farewell gift. Hughes passed away after being struck on the head by a ball during a domestic cricket match, causing a catastrophic injury from which he never recovered, sending Australia and the world into mourning. Clarke and the rest of the Test squad had gathered at Hughes’ funeral at his home town of Macksville, 350 miles north of Sydney. Clarke, who was also a pallbearer, spoke at the funeral and broke down a number of times as he spoke his last words to his late friend.
