A bright future ahead for Rishabh Pant, predicts Sourav Ganguly
"It's a terrific win," said the 46-year-old.
Rishabh Pant has truly established himself in the Indian Test team with some great performances down under. He was second only to Cheteshwar Pujara in terms of the runs scored in the four-match series. The wicketkeeper-batsman was one of the three batsmen to at least hit one century in the series. After watching this performance, former Indian captain Sourav Ganguly opined that the youngster has got a bright future ahead.
“He will be a superb player for India in the future. He has been so good in the series and in future also, he will shine,” Ganguly told reporters on the sidelines of Bengal’s Ranji Trophy Elite Group B fixture against Punjab. Pant also improved his glove work and picked up 20 catches – the most for an Indian in a Test series.
No comparisons, please!
Sourav Ganguly also noted that it was a terrific effort from the team. He added that scoring 400-600 runs in the first innings was the key. Furthermore, the former cricket also credited Jasprit Bumrah and Cheteshwar Pujara for the triumph. He said that this duo had a huge role to play in the victory. While Pujara scored 521 runs in four games, Bumrah picked up 21 wickets to finish as the highest wicket-taker.
“It’s a terrific win. They played excellent cricket throughout and the batting clicked. They scored 400-600 runs and that was the key. Bumrah and Pujara were simply brilliant. They played big roles behind the win,” Ganguly said as quoted by India Today.
Also, he was asked to compare the current team with the side which he led during the 2003-04 tour to Australia. The series was drawn 1-1 back then. However, Ganguly rejected to draw any comparisons and said that he never compares. “I don’t compare ever. So I can’t answer that question,” the left-hander concluded.
