'A Shredder might do the trick' - Ravi Ashwin's savage reply to James Anderson on mankading
With the recent news of mankading emerging from the U19 World Cup, Anderson has called for the rule to be banned from cricket.
Another controversy has erupted in the cricketing world after Afghanistan spinner Noor Ahmad mankaded Pakistan opener Mohammad Huraira in their quarterfinal match on Friday in the ongoing ICC Under-19 World Cup in South Africa.
The incident happened in the 28th over of the Pakistani innings when they were chasing 190 to book a place in the semi-final. The left-arm spinner ran Huraira out at the non-striker’s end after realizing the latter had left the crease before the ball was delivered.
As expected it has created a major furor with many saying the act goes against the spirit of the game. The last time a similar situation arose was when Indian cricketer Ravichandran Ashwin had mankaded Jos Buttler during a match in IPL 2019. While many criticised the spinner’s action, Ashwin stood by his act and has later even gone on to say that he would repeat the same again if he gets a chance.
Ravi Ashwin advices Anderson to use a shredder again
England pacer James Anderson was one of the most vocal critics of Ashwin’s action. Annoyed by the incident, Anderson even shredded a picture of Aswhin to condemn him, a video of which had gone viral last year.
Meanwhile, the 37-year-old pacer seems to be not done away with his criticism of mankading. With the recent news of it emerging from the U19 World Cup, he has called for the rule to be banned from cricket. Sharing a video of Friday’s incident, Anderson wrote on his Twitter timeline “Can we sort out (remove) this law please @ICC #MCC??”
However, Anderson found a surprising reply from Ashwin who jokingly called for the law to be “shredded” reminding the former of his action last year. Retweeting Anderson’s tweet, Ashwin wrote, “Law removal might need some deliberation!! A Shredder might do the trick for now.”
Meanwhile, in the fourth quarterfinal of the U19 World Cup, Pakistan had a cakewalk in defeating Afghanistan by six wickets at the Senwes Park in Potchefstroom. Riding on debutant Huraira’s knock of 64 runs, the Pakistani colts chased the winning target with more than eight overs to spare. Pakistan will play semi-final against India on 4th of February.
