Aakash Chopra feels Virat Kohli's comments were disappointing and unacceptable
Virat's comments actually surprised Chopra.
Virat Kohli made his foray into international cricket as an angry young man who never backs off from saying what he feels. But, as time progressed, he has evolved into a much more matured person and acts more responsibly. Also, being the Indian captain has done him a world of good on a personal note. However, his recent ‘leave India’ comments weren’t really impressive and former cricketer Aakash Chopra wasn’t pleased.
On his 30th birthday, Kohli launched his own app where he interacted with his fans. While he did this, one person termed him to be over-rated and said that he enjoyed watching England and Australia cricketers play. As Kohli read this out, he lost his cool. He responded in a very harsh way and asked him to leave India leading to severe criticism. He further asked him to get his priorities right.
Don’t think Virat would be proud of what he said
Former Indian cricketer and cricket analyst Aakash Chopra, like all others, had his say on this issue. He was among those who lashed out at him and termed those comments to be disappointing and unacceptable. He added that the statements actually surprised him.
“I don’t think this is what Virat Kohli is or this is what he actually thinks. In the last 18-24 months, we have seen a lot of maturity with regard to how he speaks, what he actually portrays in the public domain. In all the post-match interviews he’s someone who’s is not happy to take credit himself. But he’s happy to be very, very modest and humble.”
“It does surprise me. What he has said is something, yes, disappointing, unacceptable. But then, freedom of expression allows us to say what we want. I also feel social media at times gets the worst out of us. He was trying to address a mean tweet perhaps he had gone through multiple mean tweets before reacting or choosing to react to one…he could have done better. When he’ll look back at it, I don’t think he’ll really be proud of what he said,” Aakash Chopra told India Today.
