Aakash Chopra opens up on Dinesh Karthik's comeback in the Indian squad

Ace wicket-keeper batsman Dinesh Karthik was last seen in action against New Zealand during the World Cup 2019 heartbreaking semi-final. After seeing his heroics in many T20I events (Nidahas Trophy final, Kolkata T20I vs West Indies, Sydney T20I vs Australia in 2018), he was sent at no.4 position during the same match but he couldn’t get going. Since then, there has been a full stop on Karthik’s journey, and he hasn’t been seen in the Indian squad for long.

Recently commentator Aakash Chopra uploaded a video where a fan showed his eagerness on the comeback of Kolkata Knight Riders’ skipper. The fan asked Chopra whether or not would Karthik be able to return to the national squad. Answering the same, the former cricketer sounded optimistic.

“I feel what you are saying is correct. He can definitely come back. But whether he will be able to do so?” Chopra was quoted as saying on his Facebook page.

“First thing is he should bat up the order for KKR. Because he bats too low down the order, and when you bat so low, then your turn doesn’t come. So he has to bat up the order so that he can make a lot of runs. Otherwise if he bats at No.5 even when he is the captain of an IPL team, he will not have that many runs so that he can stake a claim,” he added.

Seeing the current scenario of the Indian squad, Chopra opined that the team has Rishabh Pant as well as KL Rahul, who has done the job behind wickets well. If Karthik wants to land in the 2021 T20 World Cup squad, he needs to steal the show in two seasons of IPL straight.

“Yes, he does well as a keeper. But don’t forget that at the moment, the Indian team has KL Rahul as well apart from Rishabh Pant. So, if Dinesh Karthik wants to get a spot in the Indian team for the 2021 World Cup, then he will have to play two good IPLs,” Chopra quipped.

Karthik is gearing up with his KKR teammates in the UAE to push forward the team in order to clinch their 3rd IPL trophy.
