Aakash Chopra and Sanjay Manjrekar engage in a Twitter banter
Vidarbha clinched their maiden Ranji Trophy title beating Delhi in the final.
Vidarbha, defeated the title favourites Karnataka and Delhi on their way to clinch their first title in the history of Ranji Trophy. The side led by the former Rajasthan Royals player Faiz Fazal got their first title in some style, as they clinched a nine-wicket victory over Delhi. After electing to bowl first in the finals, the side led by Fazal got off to the best of starts with a wicket in the opening over.
The debutant Aditya Thakare picked up the wicket of the right-handed Delhi opener Kunal Chandela after drawing an edge with a beautiful out-swinger. However, it was once the left-handed Gautam Gambhir was dismissed was Vidarbha in a solid place. Gambhir was out playing on into a delivery from offie Wakhare.
Delhi then fell off with a listless performance as they lost their skipper Rishabh Pant. However, it was Dhruv Shorey who kept the team intact, however, they could only muster 295 runs.
Vidarbha, in reply, belted the Delhi bowlers to score 547 runs when their innings ended. It was the 7th wicket partnership between Sarwate and Aditya Wadakar which led to the side to a huge total. Wadakar ended his innings with a score of 133, with 16 boundaries and one six. Siddesh Neral, too contributed to the total as he scored 74 at the fag-end of the innings.

Delhi in their second innings scored 280, as Vidarbha required only 29 runs to clinch their maiden Ranji Trophy title. Following the encounter, Twitter was a happy place; the fans saw Vidarbha’s story as a fairytale.
Cricket commentator Sanjay Manjrekar following the match tweeted that there were two Mumbai stalwarts in the Vidarbha squad which led to their victory.
In response, former Indian opener Aakash Chopra replied saying that “Well well…Mumbai with a lot of ‘Mumbai’ stalwarts in their squad couldn’t win it this time around ”
