AB de Villiers aiming to make ODI comeback as well
The Proteas legend also stated that his performance in the upcoming edition of the Indian Premier League will behold importance in deciding the fate of his international comeback.
Former South Africa captain AB de Villiers has already expressed his desire to come out of his international retirement amid speculation that the Proteas team management has been trying to have him into the squad for the T20 World Cup, slated to be held in Australia later this year.
“I would love to (play for South Africa again). I’ve been talking to ‘Bouch’ (new South Africa coach Mark Boucher), (new director of cricket) Graeme Smith and (captain) Faf (du Plessis) back home, we’re all keen to make it happen,” de Villiers was quoted as saying to cricket.com.au after he made his Big Bash League (BBL) debut with Brisbane Heat earlier this week.
The 35-year-old has now informed that he will want to play One Day International (ODI) as well for South Africa while speaking to Australian legend and BBL commentator Adam Gilchrist during Brisbane Heat’s match against Adelaide Strikers on Friday.
AB de Villiers wants to return to ODI cricket
“ODIs I wouldn’t take completely out of the equation, but for Test matches, it’s pretty much done,” Deccan Chronicle quoted de Villiers as saying. However, Mr. 360 has informed that he doesn’t want play throughout the year anymore and has thus decided to not think about red-ball cricket anymore. But he reassured that both the forms of white-ball cricket are pretty much on his agenda.
De Villiers, though, has stated that it will be important for him to stay fit. He has also realised that before going to Australia for the T20 World Cup, he will have to prove his worth in the South African jersey in few of the 11 T20Is that the Faf du Plessis-led side will play prior to the mega tournament.
The Proteas legend also stated that his performance in the upcoming edition of the Indian Premier League will behold importance in deciding the fate of his international comeback.
“It’s a long way away still, and plenty can happen there’s the IPL coming up, I’ve still got to be in form at that time. So I’m thinking of throwing my name in the hat and hoping that everything will work out,” de Villiers said to cricket.com.au.
