AB de Villiers declares himself fit for the longest format
"I pride myself on the fact that I can adapt to certain conditions and formats," he quoted.
Veteran South African batsman AB de Villiers has declared himself fit for the longest format. The hard hitting batsman has been a regular face in the Proteas lineup for the limited overs cricket for quite some time. However, since the last season, he has opted to stay out of action when it comes to the longest format of the game.
Now, as per the reports in Sacricketmag, AB de Villiers has remarked that he is ready to go in the longest format of the game. He is set to make his comeback in the inaugural four-day Test against Zimbabwe on the Boxing day. He mentioned that he has been practising well in the recent times and is feeling ready for the challenge.
“I pride myself on the fact that I can adapt to certain conditions and formats. have worked hard on my game over the last six months. I started in July facing red balls at the University of Pretoria, getting some technical stuff sorted out, I feel more ready than ever to take it on,” quoted AB de Villiers.
“I faced a few pink balls here last night on a spicy wicket, it was really tough. Then again it’s a great challenge, it’s the ultimate form of the game, it’s the greatest challenge to come out on top when the ball is moving around a bit,” he added further.
‘I want to contribute’
While AB de Villiers is fit to make his return, there are still clouds over Chris Morris’ fitness. Morris had injured himself during the T20 competition of CSA this season. Meanwhile, AB also spoke on his intentions. He remarked that he wishes to play big knocks and contribute to the team’s cause. He rightly cited that winning against big teams in the next few months could see them emerge as the number one side in the world.
“I want to contribute. I want to play knocks, have my say in the field with my experience and take some catches that can win games of cricket. We would like to be No 1 in the world, we are not far away. We know if we win a few series in the next three months against tough opposition we can achieve that. We will take it one step at a time, that will be nice to achieve, to be the No 1 team in the world and to maintain it for a few years,” conceded the veteran cricketer.
