Australian young gun Alex Ross, who plays for the Brisbane Heat in the Big Bash League has received a huge endorsement by one of the greatest modern day batsmen, AB de Villiers.

During the Caribbean Premier League (CPL), de Villiers met Ross when their CPL franchises Barbados Tridents and Jamaica Tallawahs met against each other in a league game.

Chris Gayle blasted five sixes to race to 47 from 20 balls in the match which was washed out by rain. Thus, there was a plenty of time for the teams to mingle in the dressing room. In the meantime, Ross was gifted a Kookaburra bat from de Villiers’ kit bag which the Proteas star also signed.

“Look forward to watching you become a legend,” de Villiers wrote. “Keep hitting them long.”

Ross has a reputation of being a sweeper but hasn’t got much opportunity as the rain-affected match was his only start for the Tallawahs this season. The 24-year old is also looking forward to the Australia A squad quadrangular series in Queensland.

Ross had a good season in the Big Bash League. He was the Redback’s second-highest runs scorer in the Sheffield Shield behind captain Travis Head. He was also capped as the Bradman Young Cricketer of the Year award at the Allan Border Medal event in January.

Australia A squad: Ashton Agar, Cameron Bancroft, Scott Boland, Cameron Boyce, Travis Dean, Peter Handscomb, Sam Heazlett, Jake Lehmann, Chris Lynn, Joe Mennie, Kurtis Patterson, Joel Paris, Matt Renshaw, Kane Richardson, Alex Ross, Chadd Sayers, Marcus Stoinis, Mitchell Swepson, Chris Tremain, Dan Worrall, Sam Whiteman.
