AB de Villiers tries to pick the winner of World Cup 2019
De Villiers also admitted that it is difficult to say who will win.
There is only one question the whole of the cricketing fraternity is trying to answer at the moment, and it is who will end up with the World Cup trophy. While the hosts England are one of the prime prospects for winning the title for the first time the Asian teams also make a strong contention. Former South African captain AB de Villiers also has picked his top contenders.
De Villiers is currently in Pakistan featuring for the Lahore Qalandars in the Pakistan Super League (PSL). He was asked which team he thinks will win and the Proteas legend said it was difficult for him to give out one name for the winner, but both the heavy weights from Asia, India and Pakistan have a good chance.
India and Pakistan in with a real chance
“It’s difficult to say who will win. You can’t look past India and Pakistan in the ODIs. Pakistan won the Champions Trophy, England are the hosts and you cannot discount Australia. South Africa would like to think they can win, so these are the five I have named who are the real big favourites,” AB de Villiers was quoted as saying by the Indian Express.
Windies almost chased down 419 against England in an ODI with the big guy Chris Gayle scoring 162. AB thus also said that West Indies have a chance as well. He still stuck to his original prediction and said that India and Pakistan the two teams that have been consistent in 50-overs cricket for quite some time now will go into the tournament with a real chance.
”The West Indies are playing good cricket, so it’s difficult to single out a team or two. On my experience and having done it before, I think India and Pakistan have probably the best chance,” AB stated.
