Abdur Razzak injured and taken to hospital
The spinner was stretched off the ground for medical attention and later airlifted from the stadium.
Bangladesh left-arm orthodox spinner and one of the country’s workhorses for over a decade Abdur Razzak on Saturday suffered an injury while completing a run in the ongoing Dhaka Premier Division Cricket League. The incident happened in the 45th over of the innings against the Khelaghor Sporting Club at Bangladesh Krira Shikkha Protishtan ground in Savar.
The injury occurred while Razzak dived while trying to save himself from a run-out injuring his left thigh and right knee which he almost dug into the ground. However, he claimed five wickets in the same match giving away 52 runs taking his total count in the tournament to 21 and also returned to score an unbeaten 10. However, it wasn’t enough as the team went on to lose their second match of the tournament against the Khelaghor Sporting Club.
The spinner was stretched off the ground for medical attention and later airlifted from the stadium and transferred to Apollo hospital. Early scans revealed that the injury was not as serious as it seemed at first glance. The bowler was kept under observations for 24 hours as said by a club official. The reports in Daily Sun have found out that he is currently nursing a “grade two” injury and only a further MRI would reveal further details. The contents of the report would be available to the media late on Sunday. Razzak has been ruled out for the remainder of the tournament. He plays for the Sheikh Jamal Dhanmondi Club in the league and will be unable to complete his duties for the season.
Abdul Razzak has played 53 One-day Internationals where he has picked 207 wickets and 44 wickets in 34 twenty20s. He has also gotten 23 scalps in 12 tests for Bangladesh. He has been one of the regular stalwarts for the Bangladesh outfit for the better part of 13 years. The Bangladeshi veteran was also the first player from Bangladesh to play in the lucrative Indian Premier League. He played for the Royal Challengers Bangalore during the first season.
