41 times Ranji Trophy champion Mumbai was knocked out of the tournament after they lost their quarter-final game against Karnataka. The finalists of the previous season could not recover from the early blows dealt by Karnataka skipper R Vinay Kumar in the form of a hat-trick in the first innings of the match.

Following the conclusion of their campaign as the top four teams fight it out to determine the finalists, veteran Mumbai all-rounder Abhishek Nayar posted a tweet which suggests that things in the Mumbai’s camp are not quite right.

Nayar ignored

The all-rounder who has been a rescuer for the team over the years with the bat, as well as the ball, was earlier dropped from the side ahead of their last and important league game against Tripura. Chief selector of Mumbai Ajit Agarkar had clarified on their decision of axing the all-rounder and had cited his poor form as the reason for the same.

They had won the final league game against Tripura and made it to the knockouts but Nayar was again ignored from the side for the knockout clash against Karnataka. The game could’ve been his 100th first-class appearance.

Mumbai’s poor show in the quarters

Vinay Kumar led Karnataka destroyed the Mumbai line-up which was already missing the services of Shreyas Iyer. A hat-trick from the skipper helped the Karnataka bundle out Mumbai for 183 runs. Being one of the best team in the history of the championship they could not overcome the Karnataka challenge as their batsmen piled up 570 runs. Mumbai eventually lost the game by an innings and 20 runs.

Nayar’s Tweet

The veteran all-rounder on Tuesday tweeted that there’s someone in the Mumbai’s camp who doesn’t want the team to be happy and united. According to Nayar after a win, one can hear the terms like unity, teamwork, family, and bonding. But there’s someone at the top position in the Mumbai camp doesn’t want to hear any of those words. Instead, he wants to destroy the good things.
