Adam Gilchrist is regarded one of the greatest ever wicketkeeper in cricket history being someone who made valuable contributions with his glove work as well as with the bat. He got a chance to keep wickets for one of the deadliest bowling attacks in Australian history and handed his side many victories with his aggressive batting display.

On the occasion of Adam Gilchrist’s 46th birthday, we look at his achievements and numbers in International cricket.

33 – Number of centuries Gilly scored as a wicketkeeper in International cricket. These are the most number of hundreds for any keeper across formats. His International aggregate of 15252 is the 3rd highest behind Kumar Sangakkara and MS Dhoni.


52 – His 52 dismissals as a wicketkeeper in World Cup are the 2nd most behind Kumar Sangakkara’s 54 dismissals. Gilchrist holds the record for the most dismissals made in a single edition of CWC (21 in 2003). His six dismissals against Namibia in 2003 are the joint most for any player in a World Cup game along with Sarfraz Ahmed’s six dismissals against South Africa in 2015.


57 – His 57-ball century against England in 2006 at Perth is the 4th fastest in Test history. Brendon McCullum scored a hundred off 54 balls while Vivian Richards and Misbah-ul-Haq have a Test hundred in just 56 deliveries.


100 – He was the first player to hit 100 sixes in the Test cricket. Brendon McCullum (107) is the only other player to hit 100 sixes in the format till date.


149 – Gilchrist’s 149 in the 2007 World Cup final against Sri Lanka is the highest individual score in a World Cup final.


172 – His 172-run knock against Zimbabwe in 2004 was then the highest ODI innings by a wicketkeeper. MS Dhoni (183*) and Quinton de Kock (178) later surpassed Gilly’s record.


416 – His tally of 416 dismissals in Test cricket are the 2nd most for any wicketkeeper after Mark Boucher’s 555.


472 – His 472 dismissals as a wicketkeeper in ODI cricket are the 2nd most for any player. Kumar Sangakkara has affected 482 dismissals in this format as a keeper. Gilchrist’s 417 ODI catches as a keeper are the most for anyone.


905 – With 905 dismissals in International cricket to his name the Australian has the most for any wicketkeeper. Mark Boucher affected 998 dismissals across formats.


3948 – Gilchrist’s 3948 runs while batting at No.7 in Test cricket are the most for any player. Ian Healy has 3041 Test runs while batting at No.7.


5570 – His 5570 runs in Test cricket are the most for anyone while playing as a wicketkeeper. Mark Boucher (5570) is the only other player with 5000 Test runs as a keeper. His 17 Test hundreds are also the most for any wicketkeeper.


9595 – Runs Adam Gilchrist scored for Australia in ODI cricket. These are the 2nd most number of runs scored by any player for Australia in ODI cricket after Ricky Ponting’s 13589. Gilchrist made 24 runs in his lone game for ICC World XI.
