Adam Griffith states England would be "silly" to not pick Jofra Archer for the World Cup

Jofra Archer is one of the most lethal bowlers going around in the limited-overs circuit today. Archer remains one of the hottest properties in the franchise cricket all over the globe today. The Big Bash League, which is being held currently has the Barbados-born performing exquisitely. His performances have led to the Hurricanes’ coach concede that England would be “silly” to miss out on including him for the World Cup 2019.

According to the earlier rules, Archer would have been qualified to play international cricket only in 2022. However, with the ECB mitigating the residency period from seven to three years, the speedster stands a real chance to represent England at the carnival.

The 23-year old is playing for Hobart Hurricanes and has picked up six wickets in just three matches. Archer was a part of the Windies youth team before joining the Sussex in 2015. Hobart Hurricanes’ coach Adam Griffith is confident of the youngster doing well for England if picked in the World Cup and labels him as a game changer and super competitive.

“I think he’ll definitely play a role for them in the World Cup – they’d be silly if he didn’t. He’s a super talent – he’s hyper-competitive. He wins games of cricket, so I think they’ll be looking at him. He’s on record that Test cricket is something he wants to play, he sees it as the pinnacle of what he can do. He’s got the talent for Test cricket, no doubt. We’ve seen what he can do in white ball cricket,” said Griffith as quoted by cricket.com.au

Morgan says Archer will get a look once he is eligible

Meanwhile, England’s limited-overs captain Eoin Morgan slated that Archer will certainly get the opportunity to prove himself once he becomes qualified to be selected for England. At the same time, the skipper also mentioned that he needs to spend more time in the country and the team composition will be looked at to see how we can fit him in the line-up.

“He needs to spend more days in the country before he is available for selection. When that happens, we’ll cross the bridge and look at all aspects of selection – how everybody could benefit the team.” said the 32-year old.
