Adam Zampa becomes the latest victim to face the brunt of Hardik Pandya's blade
Pandya smashes 3 sixes and a boundary off successive balls from Zampa.
Australia’s young leg-spinner, Adam Zampa, becomes the latest victim to face the brunt of India’s dynamic all-rounder Hardik Pandya, to join the evergrowing list of spinners he has demolished in the recent past. Sri Lankan slow offie Malinda Pushkumara, Pakistan’s spinning duo Shadab Khan and Imad Wasim have already faced the wrath of Pandya’s willow.
Australians were all over India after they reduced the home side to 87-5, with the likes of Rahane, Manish Pandey and Virat Kohli already back in the pavilion. Rohit Sharma and Kedar Jadhav did manage to construct some sort of partnership after devastating spells from Nathan Coulter-Nile and Pat Cummins.
That was when young Hardik Pandya walked into bat with the boss of Chepauk, MS Dhoni, to quietly stitch an innings defining partnership. After a cautious start, all hell broke loose for Pandya and the momentum of the innings changed after the Adam Zampa over, the 37th one of the innings.
After MS Dhoni took a single in the very first ball of the over, Pandya took the strike and smashed Zampa all across the V. He first smashed a flighted delivery in the second delivery of the over, above the head of the Faulkner placed just behind the bowler in the 30-yard circle, to take a boundary.
What followed was absolute carnage as he smashed Zampa for three consecutive sixes in the next three balls. The first one was hit dead straight and managed to hit the roof of the Chidambaram Stadium. The second one was hit squarer to the right of long-on while the third was hit straighter to the left of long, with the same result.
In between, he brought up his third fifty in ODI cricket and added Adam Zampa to the list of spinners such as Pushpakumara, Imad Wasim and Shadab Khan, who have suffered the repercussions of flighting the ball to the hard-hitting Mumbai Indians’ batsman.
