Afghanistan Cricket Board announces new eligibility and selection criteria

The players will have to meet the minimum set of requirements to be eligible for the selection.

Afghanistan Cricket Board (ACB) has put forth new eligibility and selection criteria for the players to get picked for the national teams; national side, A team, emerging team and U19 team. The decision was taken in a meeting which was attended by Cricket Director, Basheer Stanikzai, Chief Selector Nawroz Mangal and members of selection committee Abdul Wali Amin and Ahmad Shah Sulemankhel.

The players will now have to undergo a yo-yo fitness test to be eligible for the selection. The minimum score for the national team to clear the test is set at 17.3 and for the emerging team, it is set to 17.1. Stanikzai also cleared that the policy approved for the player selection will be implemented at all levels and the cricketers are bound to meet the minimum requirements to be selected for the national teams.

Afghanistan has been improving immensely at the highest level and recently played their first ever Test match against India in Bengaluru. The players will now have to abide by the rules which will surely help the cricket in the country grow in the future.

Proof of identity

The Director of Cricket of ACB, Basheer Stanikzai that a player should be involved in cricket for 300 days annually for two consecutive years and their presence should be verified by a relevant club, association, provincial team or region. They will also have to provide their National ID card or Passport as a proof of identity. The U19 players must prove Afghanistan Citizenship or provide the birth certificate according to the official website of ACB.

Also, the players should be involved in the domestic tournaments and they must have obtained a minimum grade A in either of the two formats at the domestic level in order to be eligible for national selection. The chief selector Nawroz Mangal was also in favour of the new rules and reiterated the importance of fitness, discipline and performance.
