Afghanistan spinner Qais Ahmad gets engaged
Qais took the five-day break in the BBL as an opportunity to attend the ring ceremony.
Qais Ahmad, the young Afghanistan spinner, has gotten engaged. The leg-spinner is currently plying his trade for the Hobart Hurricanes in the 2019-20 edition of the Big Bash League (BBL). The 19-year-old has taken part in three matches in which he has picked six wickets. Amidst all his cricketing assignments, the Young Turk took time out for his personal commitments.
The development of Qais’ engagement was confirmed by M.Ibrahim Momand, a local Afghan journalist. The Hurricanes last played a game versus the Melbourne Renegades on Tuesday, December 24 at the Bellerive Oval. Ben McDermott and Co are next scheduled to lock horns with the Melbourne Stars on Monday, December 30 at the Aurora Stadium in Launceston.
Qais took the five-day break as an opportunity to attend the ring ceremony. As far as action on the field is concerned, Ahmad has a long way to go in the ongoing BBL. The Hurricanes are comfortably placed third on the points table with two victories from three matches at a net run rate of -0.342. Stars won’t be an easy proposition as they are unbeaten in the tournament.
Qais Ahmad shining in the BBL
Qais showed his class in the very first match of the T20 event on Australian soil. He broke the backbone of the Sydney Sixers batting at the Traeger Park in Alice Springs. He picked up a four-wicket haul that guided his team to a 25-run victory. There wasn’t any doubt about giving the Player of the Match award to Qais. He will now be looking to carry on with his rich vein of form.
Qais Ahmad has a truckload of talent up his sleeves, but due to the presence of some quality spinners, he hasn’t gotten a lot of chances at the international level. He made his debut in a Test versus Bangladesh at the Zahur Ahmad Chowdhury Stadium in Chattogram.
Ahmad played under the leadership of Rashid Khan and was only entrusted to send down nine overs. He was also a part of the auction for the 2020 Indian Premier League (IPL). There he was registered at a base price of INR 20 lakh, but he didn’t find a buyer, to his dismay.
